Got my Snowpulse

I've just been wearing it around the house driving my wife crazy

Looks well built, I designed and built outdoor equipment years ago and have pretty strong opinions.... and surprisingly i'm not that dissapointed. I'm a fan of overbuilt and never think there is enough stitching.

I prefer closed cell backpads/hip belts over mesh covered open cell.

I don't like anything single stitched. Especially on top of Airbag compartment.

Protecter for release pin doesn't thread on far enough.

I would like some way to carry a shovel on the outside of the bag.

However... I really don't think there is any comparing Snowpulse to ABS, sorry Klim and company. Don't get me wrong the ABS is great and wouldn't talk anyone out of it, but the Snowpulse is dialed. The design of this pack is bomber, the airbag system is definately the future, refill at the store down the street, breathable air, chest and head protection, head pops up FIRST if burried.

Oh yeah, and real compression straps! I got the 45L pack and I can cinch it down tight on a sandwich and a beer! This is possible because the bag deploys out the top. When the bag is not deployed it sits perfect around the neck like a moto-neck brace, no restricted movement.

Ya, I know, it's a thousand bucks. But this is the only thing you can do to save your own a$$.
Then at least your group will have at least one guy who can look for all the people who thought a thousand bucks was to much to stay on top!

I think the reason they don't have storage for your shovel is because you should not be taking your bag off when your're stuck on a hill. If it slid with oyur bag laying at your feet it would make a lot of sense eh?

they also have a pocket for the pull handle, good idea for when on the trail, or for being around drunk peole back at camp. lol. And its not a hard plastic loop like the first ABS bag (which I have), so I son't think it would get cought as easily as that loop, and in 4 years of wearing that bag it has never been accidentally set off. I think this may prove to be a very good design. I was wondering hoe to get a Leatt Brace to fit under my sled gear....

I got to blow one off at the snowshow in saskatoon SK, it was a neat expierence. Ive never blown off an ABS so i cant compare, but i know i didnt like how much you have to pull the cord to get it to go. I gave it one hard yank and nothing happened, almost like it was taking up the slack in the line, another good inch or so and then it blew off. It was loud as hell with no helmet on and it gave me a good punch in the back of the head haha!

I did like how it supported my head though, even with no helmet on it really stabilized my neck, could be a good thing, could be a bad thing, depends who you talk to and what there opinion is.

i also got to try one at the saskatoon snow show and i looked at the abs bag too. will be hitting the snow this year with a snowpulse bag. My only complaint was no exterior shovel storage like my current pack.

Heading to the MT's

My 1st trip to the MT's is this Jan. @ Togwotee MT. Lodge buddy I'm going with wants us all to buy beacons but I really don't want to drop the 3 bills on the one he's buying would this be a decent trade off?

Buy the best beacon you can. Analogs are cheap and they are awsome if you know how to use them but most don't. Digitals like the Mammutt pulse are very simple and user friendly, damn near full proof. I go to Avy courses every year and that seems to be the beacon that the instructers love. Don't risk you life to save a hundread bucks, a good beacon is well worth the extra $$

I second that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My buddy purchased a snow pulse bag. I have an abs bag. His bag was a lot lighter. The only thing I didn't like was the straps. They seemed really bulky and my helmet would hit them when I turned my head. I think it would be something to get use to.

What happens when you take one of these bags through the air port, what do you tell the baggage handler or where you check your bags. Are they allowed on air planes?

Each carrier is differnt so you have to check with the airline. That was one of the longest waits for the snow pulse was getting DOT approved. I know some heli-ski operations say right on there web sites wether or not they can be taken with them

Atmospheric air:
79.09% Nitrogen
20.95% Oxygen
0.03% Carbon Dioxide
0.93% Argon

It is not the contents it is the pressure of the contents. If the bottle or valve is broken then it becomes a rocket.
Pressure x Volume = m x r x Temperature from high school chem class

JMO I hope I never have to use mine (ABS) or anyone else does for that matter, something is better than nothing and comming home safe is all that matters.

Good point, I guess a third of sledder avi "victims" were stuck or helping someone who was. I like having my shovel on the back of my sled, but if the szchit hits the fan and your sled is gone, your friends are burried and you have no shovel!

As far as how hard it is to pull, thats great to hear. I don't think it will be a problem to pull hard enough when your in an avalanche!

PV=nRT, or PV=(m/M)RT; where n is the number of moles, or <m>***/<M>olar mass.

Molecular weight doesn't matter. Sort of opposite of the pound of bricks, pound of feathers analogy. Mole is simply the amount of substance.

I was just thinking along the lines of if you dont get a good grip on it while getting swept up by an avy, The ABS from what i can understand only needs about half an inch of pull to set off the explosive trigger, and might even go off on its own by catching on something if your tumbling down with an avy, whereas the Snowpulse would need alot of yank. Just a thought and my opinion, i own neither bag.
