Hey guys,

My wonderful girlfriend is going to get me a new helmet for our anniversary so that the guys on the forum quit making fun of me (i.e. see modular helmet thread making me out to be such things as Barney and Buzz Lightyear with the help of photoshop).

I NEED YOUR HELP...

Which helmet, and why, would you go with...either the Klim F4 or the TOBE Technologies DoRock helmet????

Any helfpul information would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

They still have some on Ebay for $299 in my size...the same price as a Klim F4 from what I have found!

I realize they are probably both good helmets...but the TOBE one sounds cool with the speakers and such...

How much can you hear with the sled running? If it is loud enough to drown out your own sled... maybe you cant hear the others... sounds like a safety problem...

The same problem on ski hills with people crankin thier favorite tune... oblivious to those around them.

The Klim keeps your head from sweating better IMO.

Ryan,

I have no complaints with my Klim. I don't sweat much b/c of all the venting. The ToBe is a sweet helmet but I can't give you any feedback on it from personal experience. It would be really nice to have the speakers but I prefer the good ol' sound of the two stroke.

The fins on the F4 can and do break. It's not a big deal but just be aware of that. Klim also includes a liner for the helmet for really cold days. I have not used it yet. I've had some good whacks to the noggin' while wearing the F4 but it's held up well and I haven't had any fins break yet. I did break my visor but Klim gives you an extra along with a carrying bag, extra cheek pads and the wind stopper liner.

Take care and hope to see you at the 4m ride this year.

Tim,

Thank you for the helpful information!!

Yes, I will be at the 4M ride so you better get up here for it:)

P.S. Don't worry, I will be bringing the good old modular along to the ride for a good old laugh if nothing else;)

Love my F4, I sweat like a scalded wildebeest so it's the only thing that really works for me.

I would give the 509 a good look too, otherwise the Arai, Shoei, and Bell Moto 8 are awesome lids too. First and foremost find one that fits right. Snug (not tight and uncomfortable) all the way around the melon and just snug enough around the cheeks to keep you from biting yourself (this is where the F4 is nice coming with 2 sizes of cheek pads).

Everyone is a little different and most brands fit a little different TRY THEM ON!!!!

Oh and yeah a pic to remember would be nice :D :p

I kinda agree with this and would add that I have been able to "catch" mechanical failures that are immenant or be able to catch a runnability issue by listening to my sled. I've tried to listen to tunes while riding and just can't get used to it, bugs me to not be able to hear my sled and all it's music.
