I my looking to buy a new coyote gun and was looking for ideas on what others use and reccommend. Now I already have a RRA Ar-15 with a 20" barrel and lots of other goodies so I'm looking at other calipers. I'm kinda fund of the following 4 so far and have my mind open to others also.
1. Rem 700 VLS 22-250
2. Rem 700 VTR .223, but they don't offer it in a 26" barrel any longer
3. Savage 12 VLP-S 22-250
4. rem 700 Sendro SFii 22-250
I really like Rem 700's but am not committed on getting another one to add to my already 3 that I own now.
Gonna go look at a Tike this week. I already own a Tika T3 in 30-06 and love the weight and accuracy with it.
What about the .25WSS anyone shoot that caliper if so what's your thoughts.
Would like to keep it under a grand if I could, because I will have to save up for the optics that I want to fit this new rifle.

My .264 Win. Mag. is the best varmint gun I have ever shot. Heavy but if I can see it I can hit it.

264 is a little hot if you are skinning them to sell.i have used my 223 for years and love it for coyotes and bobcats.i have a 700 vsf 22-250 and i use it for my baitpile cuz its 300 yards out my window.220 swift is a favorite of mine also for longer ranges.

Cubby, check out a .204. I bought a savage a few years back, I'm a lefty, they were about the only ones who offered it. I glass bedded and floated it now it is a tack driver. I own several 22-250's to .223's and I haven't pulled one of them out of the safe since. No recoil, very fur friendly and deadly even at long ranges.

204 is a sweet round but very wind sensitive.

You know I completely forgot about a .204 thanks for the reminder. I think I will look in to those. I do own a tikka t3 in 30-06 and love the gun, best trigger out of the box I have ever shot.

I have never felt like the wind has affected a shot from mine any worse than it would have a larger caliber. Most of my shots are taken on the run not at a stationary target though. It it a proven very effective gun by my standards.:face-icon-small-hap

Ruger 25-06 with the varmint barrel. Reach way out there.

22-250 at 4200 ft per second. i have a 700 fluted stainless bull barrel.. 204 is no good in the wind unless your shooting less then 200 yrds imo

Winchester Model 70- 22.250

great velocity, shoots really flat, reaches out a long ways
or a .223- cheaper ammo

Well the .204 that I was looking at was a rem r-15 in .204 but was told by 2 differnt dealers that I wold be looking at at least 18-24 months out so no go on that one LOL

per Winchester http://ballisticscalculator.winchester.com/

Based on factory ammo the following is what you get (not some super hot reload)

The .243 kicks the 22.250's butt flatter shooting and less wind drift.
The .204 is also flatter shooting than the 22-250 but a little more drift.
IMO the barrel life will be better with the 204 & 243, and recoil and noise much less with the 204. Yes I have shot and own the above.

You could get a .243 upper for you AR and also deer hunt with it using 100 gr bullets!:bounce:

that is just box ammo. you can load alot hotter loads yourself

tikka t3 lite .223

or i like my 17hmr also for the shorter distances, and its cheap to shoot

I purchased a Savage 112 BVSS when they first came out with the accu-trigger. It has been an amazing gun and very accurate, I use it on the Prarie dogs in Montana. Although it is heavy to pack around walking, 11lbs with scope. I too am thinking about a new deer/yote gun and I want something that I don't mind walking with. I think I have decided on a 6.8 SPC in the AR platform.

Dumb question here but nobody has ever told me and I see it alot in rifle descriptions on Armslist and gunbroker.

WTF is the glass beads and floated barrel???

Glass bedding an action is when a layer of fiberglass or epoxy is put between the action and stock to provide the action with full contact to the stock to try and prevent movement. A floating or floated barrel is when there is no contact with the barrel and stock so that when the barrel warms up and expands the stock doesn't put pressure on the barrel and effect accuracy.
