good sled skiing machine for N Cascades?

I was wondering what machine would be good for the Baker area to be used specifically for ski access? Can a machine handle two people on the sled with a third in tow? Opinions on "ghost riding" a sled unmanned down a hill? Any advice on buying a used sled? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

ghost riding it down hill probably isnt a good idea. Just watch a few videos on you tube. Usually they end up rolling down end over end.

I bought a trail sled for the same purpose, but I now realize if I want to use a sled to access the terrain I want to hit, I need a mountian sled. Especially at Baker.

yup. you want a mtn sled that can handle 2 people.
Long track(151-162) with at leat 2 inch paddles.
700cc is probably the minimum. Some folks use wide tracks for more float in pow.
I use: Arctic cat m6 w/153 track & Polaris RMK 700 w/151 track. Use the RMK for 2 people shuttles up. The M6 is a little low on power with 2 up. It's a challenge & I'm still getting used to it. Some people use a tow rope.

I have seen gost riding up in Canada, they would ride there sleds up the hill and get off point them down and crack the throtle and down they went. Then they would board down and do it again. But you cant do that here, we don't have the runoffs at the bottom of the hill, but let me know if you are going to try I would like to go watch. Ha Ha.

I tried a couple 'dummy ghost rides' today at Mt St Helens today...point the sled in the desired direction, tap the gas, then no-hand it down the hill & hope it goes in the right direction.
You definately need a good run off area at the bottom of the slope that is flat-ish or even slightly up hill. Get the sled pointed directly down the fall line. Any cross-hill or traversing isn't good. I'm going to try this in fresh snow when we get some. I think it'll be better than the corn snow today...smoother for sure & maybe less damage when things go wrong.

You make a track down following the line or high center of the slope. Just run off straight down to the bottom and climb back up to your buddy and send the sled off. It works fine. Do it where sled can't go anywhere. Done a lot on Baker. Lot of fun. By the way...the more power and more track the more gooder. Especially on the heavenly deep powder days. The better the boarding the better the sled needs to be to get you there. Light, powerful (150 plus horse) and lots of track (163). I ride with boarders...but over the years the boards stay home because the riding is so...like...ON ALL THE TIME. The sled is a big board. Goose

MY Kingcat is up for sale. Plenty of power but big rooster tail for towing. I just got a M8 and love it. Big seat and good tunnel, smooth delivery and too much fun boarding almost went to the wayside.
