good place to stay in island park?

I dont think there is any secret stashes in IP.

I think there are, but not hard to find if you like to explore. In other words, if you're the type to get off the trail as fast as you can and pick your way through the trees (or follow single-tracks of others), you will come across lots of great stuff up there.

I'm cleaning up a Goole Earth file of the IP area that I will share soon...stay tuned or watch this thread http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=159624.

bubba is right.....there are no more "secret" places to ride because he tells everyone about them. :beer; as mentioned before, mt. jefferson is double good fun but can be spooky if it is a bad avy year. hell roaring, lion's head, blacks canyon, blue creek, willow creek, red finger, ***** ridge and slide mountain are all great places to ride.

thanks scott

well we are going to come out just haven't nailed down the exact dates. so hopefully i can hook up with a couple of you and you can show us around and we can compare iron.

thanks too to all those who posted.

Hey Numbskull, If you head over to the Winchester, climb up and fix the darn web cam that's facing Mt. Jefferson.....hasn't worked for over a year now! :beer;

dawg- if you are looking to rent a cabin, check out www.vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner). and yes, riding from your door is the best part about island park. let me know what weekend you are coming and i'll meet you for a beer and a ride.

well we will be out jan 9- 16th. going to be staying in a place on the golf course - hole 3 hideway. can't wait. 4 of us for sure. look forward to hooking up with who we can and drinking a few and riding a lot :D

places to stay IP

Buffalo Run campground has some great little cabins...very nice...has kitchenettes....south of Ponds a little ways....we like staying there very nice people. Sleeps 6 poeple per cabin but that is a little cozy 4 people per is better. Ponds seems to have sharpened their rates a bit and we have stayed there as well....Ponds has rest. bar, and payat pump gas. Lakeside is nice....good food and bar. All these places are on the snow and dont have to trailer. Usually IP has early good snow...last year between xmas and newyears at least 4-5 ft fell....omg....maybe even more

I like the northern end of IP wich leads to Carrot Basin....stay at Einnos they have food lodging and drinks and gas....a quite nice the lady that owns and runs it if she hasnt sold is Jean....old guy Ehlert passed away....the place is like a "sledding institution" so to speak....anyways....then you can ride north towards Teepee Basin, Cabin Crick, and Carrot Basin....

I have had two associates killed in avalanches....one on Jefferson and the other on Lions Head....I guess that is one of the other reasons we have been going to other areas.

We have become a little bored with IP and have taken to Cub River out of Preston wich leads to Franklin Basin, etc.....the only problem is close Lodging....there is a place close to trail head on Cub River....I cant think of name but google it.

Good luck....check the snowtel sites....my lady constantly checks them and is an authority on snow conditions....
