Good Oil

I ran Shell Advance Sythetic in my '01 RMK 800 with no issues for 4500 miles. Ran the same oil in my '06 900 RMK for 4000+ miles - no issues. Now I'm running it in my '12 Pro. 1200+ miles so far with no issues. Lots of good oil out there, but I'll stick to what works for me.

Thanks guys for Shell oil reply. Now let`s add twist to this thread. What about oil mixing compatibility? i have unknown oil in my sleds (one probably VES Gold, and other one is blue :)). I will top it up with Shell oil after each run. Am i looking for trouble? is it better to drain unknown oil and fill with known one?

In my personal opinion for the amount of time that it takes you to suck the old oil out of the tank it's just worth it to suck it out clean then start with a new brand. You'll still have a little mixing from the oil remaining in the lines and pump but it won't take long to run through that. And I'd even consider one further step of mixing a tank of fuel at let say 50-60:1 just cuz. I have used VES gold from day one and it worked really well for me so far. Pick an oil and stick with it is the most important thing IMO.

Ok, i will drain old oil out of tank, and will use it to mix with gasoline in tank. This way it wouldn`t hurt i believe.

If you're switching oil just use the old oil you suck from the tank in your weed water or chainsaw. It's not such a big deal now with oil compatibility but I don't ever like having two different brands of oil being used at the same time. Mix the fuel in the tank with whatever you're running in the injector tank and call it a day.

With other words: "SU27, stop being cheap and start doing right things :)" Thanks man

Keep in mind you can manipulate data all day long so that your oil looks best peeps. Something they fail to show is oil viscosity index - which shows an oil's variance in viscosity with temperature. Redline's oils always rank high (or highest) for that classification which may be why the notes in the Legend's chart states "good film strength" for the Redline oil.

Have FUN!

I think it's all brain damage....run what you feel like as long as it meets the specs. In all the years and all the oil threads, there has never been 1 documented case of having an engine failure due to using X oil rather than Y oil. 10 people will give 10 different responses and 0 of them are having oil related issues or benefits other than (maybe) smell. Even the powervalve thing seems impossible to get a consensus on....I think that relates more to riding style.

agree 100%. This is the same discussion as "where snow is whiter - in Idaho or Montana"

Its like the european oil my wifes mercedes needs.... Its the price as synthetic. I think its just sent to the car manufactures and they approve it but its the same damn oil. There is no special additive to make it only need one oil change a year.

Also fuel... Here in saskatchewan if you are buying shell fuel you are buying majority of the time co-op fuel. My cousins a power engineer there, they take out the hydrogen at the refinery, so when your buying shell hydrogen enriched premium its co-op premium and they cant just inject hydrogen after.
