We all know of the issues that the 07 800r engine is known for, mainly the crank of course. For example I recently tore down my XRS engine to get it ready for a SHR 860 kit and found the PTO side two bearings to seem a little wore for the mileage (approx 1200 mi). Anyway I had the 2 end bearings replaced and when the crank was trued it was .010 out on the PTO end which is huge and the PTO bearings were showing that amount of runout in how worn the were. This find was unexpected and eventually would have caused problems down the road, but this is not the main reason for the issues but an issue to be aware of. Just cause the crank has a lot of runout doesn't mean it cannot be repaired.
For the good news, the main reason for crank failure on these 07 engines is the fact that many of the cases were machine wrong, they were machined too tight and would pinch the center bearings on the crank excessively and cause them to fail. Big John at SHR has found a machinest who can measure the cases and machine them to the 08 spec to remedy all of the possible issues related to poorly machined cases from the factory.
Give Big John a call or PM him about detalis and pricing but from what I have understood is that the pricing is very reasonable and the turn around is only a few days.
If you like your 07 and want to keep it here is a way to give some peace of mind. Other upgrades to do while in the engine if you are going to go this far is to have the crank trued, install updated rave valves to prevent breakage and install the dual ring piston kit from SHR. I was worried about installing the 860 on my 07 before with the questionable lower end issue but now I have no concerns about it and have decided to go with the 860 with a few extra goodies to bring up the HP a little more than the standard kit.
Hope this helps and feel free to PM me with any questions but for pricing you need to contact BJ at SHR.
Thanks.
