Good idea to remove idler wheels with ice scatchers?

Not necessary but it saves weight and you can usually get away with less wheels depending on your riding conditions. Don't want to remove them all. I PERSONALLY run the two inner wheels and the wheels on the round of the skid. with a set of scratcher right behind the round.

If 6lbs is gonna make or break you, then pull the idlers. I left mine on, it sure can't hurt to have them there and by the time I get stuck, 6lbs doesn't make a damn bit of difference.

I removed the 4 outer idler wheels on my RMK when i put on my ice scratchers. There are still 2- inner ones left. Don't know how it will work then, as i mounted the scratchers last week. :face-icon-small-hap

Hope my hyfax still lasts.

I run 2 Billet idlers with my scratchers mounted directly behind the wheels, wheels are located at farthest point fwd of skid..just under me, i figured it would be the best to leave those 2 wheels on since most of the wieght (me) is put on that portion of the skid/hyfax...ran all last year in every type of snow and was perfect..

Took all 6 wheels of my 08 d7 600 miles ago and highfax is like new. I was skeptical and kept checking for gruves in the high fax or melted highfax on the track clips and havn't found either. :D

I left my center, most forward ones in. A hint of an icy road and no snow for lube didn't work so well on my bros. He put his center ones back in, both have scratchers.

Take off the wheels if you want to loose weight.

If not then keep for added protection when there is little snow

Anyway you may not notice 6 pounds when stuck with 60 pounds of snow between the track.

I just put together a timbersled rear with new ice age rails (163) and I had to drill holes to add the 6 wheels , but first I had f-bomb powdercoat the rails so less snow build up, I've been out when the hi-fax wore threw to the rail cuz of being old and very cold snow and no wheels, spoils a day fast

Sounds like everyone keeps at least one set of wheels on. I think I'll do the same thing and only shed 4lbs! I think I can handle an extra 2lbs for some extra piece of mind.:beer;

I have mine set up the same way as Quido, seems that most of the wear happens at the front bend on the rails.
