Gonna buy a 2010...how bad really is the chev 6L gas

Have any of you done any aftermarket exhaust, cold air intake, or reprogramed etc. to the newer 6.0 with 6 speed?
If so, did you see any noticeable improvement in power or gas mileage?

I'm curious to why gm has diffrent power ratings for the 6.0 Someone stated that the "classic" body style gm was at 300hp. I'm looking at the window sticker from our 05 escalade and it reads "vortec 6.0L engine 345hp" if same motor why does the suv get more ponies?

The HD trucks get a detuned motor. Lower RPM, etc. The Escalade/Denalis always have higher HP numbers, because that is all the rage in premium SUVs. Torque is all that really matters.

I have the 6.2L 380HP in my 07 Yukon XL Denali with the 6 speed and it is pretty good. Not the ultimate puller, but I pull a 27' enclosed and a 10K landscape trailer and it does fine in the power dept. Only thing is the 1/2 tons need proper weight distribution more than a 3/4. The AWD hurts the mileage. I get 13 in town and 17 on the highway.

The big help in the towing dept is the 6 speed trans on the 6L and 6.2L. Just remember 5 and 6 are both overdrive.

I have a 08 GMC seirra, with the 6L and 3.73 around town and local drive i get a bought 14, highway about 16, truck has 17,000 miles no add on's yet, looking at getting throttle body spacer, intake, and possibly a chip!

I bought an 09 2500HD Silverado a couple of weeks ago. I haven't really watched the mileage in the city. One 2hr trip on the highway at 125 km/h and the computer indicated 15 mpg. Powers good but I haven't pulled anything yet. I like the 6-speed tranny (4:10 gears). Truck sounds great.

I had many fords and chevs (new one every 2 yrs or less due to "wearing out"). Running them in the oil and gas industry in western canada, getting paid for mileage. All i can say is try a Nissan Titan/Armada (go to titantalk.com and look around), i ran a 2004 Armada for work (now the wifes as it's still not worn out), not a cent in maintenance costs other than lubes/filters. now running a 2008 nissan titan, I'll never ever go with ford or chev again due to the cost of running them for work (although they are really really nice vehicles, and if i needed a diesel I'd have to)....take my advice and save all your vehicle allowance money as the cost of ball joints and brakes on chevs is killer and that 6L is a guzzler especially under load. Test drove an F150 with it's 6 speed is a nice ride and great on fuel (my neighbour has one), but i think in the long term it would be toast after 3 or 4 yrs of work usage.

What makes you think you will wear a gas truck out in 3 years?I think there will be a tonne of people that will tell you different.I got a 02 ford gas truck still running strong havnt had one thing go wrong with it.My diesel thats a different story.

I would have to agree with Transporter, I have an 06 Gm half 5.3 litre, I have 210000 kms(hard oilpatch kms) on it and its still a great truck. The wife has a 97 Tahoe with 424000 kms on it, I put a tranny, 1 ball joint and an alternator in it. She still uses it as a daily driver :D. I have an 07 Duramax Diesel with 164000 kms, I'm very afraid driving it off warranty, been good so far, no repairs. The best thing I have liked about the Duramax is the brakes, original brakes and still 90% front, 60% rear.

I had an 01 Dodge diesel before the 06 1/2 ton, was the biggest pile of shi t I have ever owned, EXPENSIVE to repair too. Great motor, truck and front end were garbage. :beer;

Love the 6 liter

I no mine is the older 6 liter 2000 but I have never had any problems with the truck I have a sled deck and a small 2 place trtailer i tow I always get 10-11 with that set up The thing i found is slow down a little Good luck but i no the new truck with the 6 speed auto get good mileage and has great power I almost bought one it was nice but just didnt want the payment Do the coldair and agood exhaust dont spend the money on the programmer not worth the money

I bought a 2005 Chevy 2500HD 6.0L work truck 2nd hand from a government conservation crew from alberta with 58,000KM on it back in late 2007. I've put 70,000km on it in the last 1.5 years, most of that done with a sled deck, 2 sleds and sometimes towing. I love it. Even fully loaded with 2 sleds, 4 passengers and gear it still rips on the highway, and uphill and I haven't had any engine issues so far. I threw a KN air filter on it, am probably getting a cold intake soon. Super durable, super reliable. I love my truck and I've put it through way more than most people have in terms of towing, payload and 4x4ing.

They are practically giving trucks away right now, it's the perfect time to buy. Here in Canada you can get a 1500 4x4 crew cab 2009 NEW for 20,000CND. (Not that you'd want a 1/2 ton though.)

I had a 92 Ford beforehand and it gave me nothing but problems and kept breaking down in the middle of nowhere.

Mines a base model, no power options, rubber floors which is great to hose out. Carpet rots anyways. You have to realize it's a truck, and hauling heavy gear. It will cost more than a car, but Chevy/GMC trucks get the best mileage out there for gas engine trucks. Both my room-mates have the same truck, one has a 2500HD allison diesel, other has a 6.0L gas. Out of my riding buddies 2 have 6.0L gas and 3 have the Allison Diesels, all 2500HDs. There's a reason why we all have them, they put up with the abuse we put them through.

A new truck is a hard question. Have seen alot of heads from the dealer (6.0 and 5.3) Chev. Ford did not take the bail out, but they are junk. Dodge, come on, enough said. Toyota maybe. A friend took a chev dualie 4 door and put a 5.9 cummins in it. Nice but $$$$$$$. Damn Chev is probally the answere.

You guys ranting about nissan and toyota, question for you. Are you the same guys that piss and moan the most about the economy. Buy a domestic and help your country. Buy an import help their country. Buy AMERICAN!

Anyone else with real world mileage reports on the 6.0L GM? I'm looking at a 2009 2500HD. Thanks.

its not just detuned its a completely different motor. yes same bore and stroke and same block but different compression ratio, different heads etc. requires premium fuel etc.

that goes for the escalade and SS, i believe the denali just got a better tuned 6.0 with standard compression

got about 1500 miles on a 09' 2500hd ext long bed and got 15 with the first half tank of gas but that's all the longer I could go with the 245's on it. now it's got 305 20"s and I lost a couple at least, I did a full tank trip on the interstate at about 75 and got 12, I know pretty sad. pulling 10,000lbs I get about 8mpg. I got the work truck package and 373's and like every one says prolly should have got the 410's but it's a nice truck and I'm happy.

I have an 09 Chevy 2500 LTZ Crew 4x4 and get about 15 city/hwy...One thing to note is that these aparently have a rev limiter/govener that will not let the truck go over 90MPH up or down hill....

05 Denali...best mileage ever was around 15...it is a dog for MPG..but nice motor...Migrating tow rig to Duramax...

My truck says it averages 11.7 MPG on the display, and this truck has spent probably half its mileage with a 20 ft enclosed behind it.

2007.5 6L 2500hd 4x4 with a Gm performance cold air intake and straight through exhaust i got on average between 14 to 16 mile per gallon around town 19 to 21 on the highway and 13 pulling a 31 foot travel trailer. These are calculated numbers with no bs(i dont need to lie) i traded this truck off on a d max and am regreting ever minute of it. But i needed more room for the kiddies. The 6litre pulled as good or better than my d max does now, i know that sounds stupid but its true and the dealership cant figure out whats wrong with it . they say thats as good a she gets it gets 15 to 16 around town 21 on the highway and 14 towing so glad i spent the extra 10 grand. These are Canadian Gallons also
Hope this helps :beer;
