Gold Creek / Stampede Pass

I'm looking to get my wife and young kids on the snow tomorrow and could really use a conditions report.

We were thinking a road ride at gold creek up to the tower and maybe around the loop. I have never been to Stampede but that may be a possibility. Has either been groomed yet?

I'd really appreciate a report. This will be the girls first ride this year. Would be nice to get up and get a view of the lakes or something.

they are running the groomer, should be nice out tomarrow, I'm heading up to kachess in the morning

I was just looking at the state website and there is a note that says Christmas Eve will not be groomed. I guess that means the last groom was on Saturday?

Hmmm.... Wonder how it's holding up? The weather looks pretty decent.

I was there last sun, trail was not groomed and lots of bumps . Snow was ok we could nt stand not trying our new sleds out so we went out. We got back to parking lot and it was a rainy nasty day , the lot was bare no snow :face-icon-small-fro

Rode Stampede yesterday. Not the worst conditions I have seen road is a tad bumpy but do able. Found some soft stuff in the trees. I would go again tomorrow if I could.:)

I was up at Stampede this morning. At 9am not a single rig was over at gold creek. Grooming was perfect. Off trail was very icy. Definitely a road riding day. Put down your scratchers!!

The typical pass fog was hanging out too. Got above it a couple times and it was spectacular. Riding in it was a bit chilly.

had groomed trail, definately icey. was able to stay above the fog for most of the day

Yep, the grooming was pretty good. once we got above the fog, the sun was warm and we had a great day. We explored off the roads a bit but cautiously. Important thing was we all had a great time. Rode over the top and back down to Kachees snopark. That stretch of groom was perfect.

We went up to the tower and played hide and seek with the beacons. The kids got really good at it. I'd take it a hundred + yards away and toss it into a tree well and they found it each and every time.

I was the one on the 09 dragon up there when you had the kids looking for the beacon

They were grooming Kachess Wed. afternoon when I was there....pretty hard with just a little fresh on top, bring ice scratchers! :beer;

My son and I started out riding yesterday at Gold Creek. Trail in was hammered and off trail wasn't any better. Loaded up and headed over to Crystal Springs and ended up with some decent trail riding.

We headed up from gold creek about 930 and the trail got better as we got higher. As we passed the turn to Price Creek, we looked that direction and there were no tracks on the trail at all. Just groomer tiller marks. Although the snow was hard as a rock, the riding was still decent and better than not riding. I'd like to check out the Stampede side. Never been there. Is it pretty kid friendly?
