Gold CREEK /Sheep Mountain

Belmont

We could see some tracks from a week or so back on some of the windswept ridges. Just nobody back in that country the last two years ? We have ridden with a dozen riders out of Seely back into this country, but not a sign of anybody riding the Hilde road or the Bowles Meadow area ?

Late in the day on the way out two sleds had come up the Cow creek road, that was it.

Gold Creek is Golden!

We rode Gold Creek on Thurs and it was the best ride of the year(so far). IMG_0675.jpg Lots of powder and finally some sunshine.IMG_0676.jpg Went up the west fork, making the loop towards the Gold Ridge Cabin.IMG_0677.jpgIMG_0678.jpgIMG_0684.jpg A few more pics The last 2 hrs of the day are the best, hated to leave.

3/6 Sunday in Gold creek

road up to gravel pit better, couple of bigger covered trailers, turn around area snow is hard or harder, road banks melting and more room to park out of the way of traffic.

Broke out the 513 trail over to shoo fly, good new snow this week...............well ok, I haven' ridden in old snow yet this year.

Followed a new trail off mineral Mtn ridge into the West fork, scoped out this route several times after the 2003 burn, but oooooo crap the vertical drop at the end...........but there were tracks so, the end drop is an eye opener.

Stopped and talked to Mighty Mitch from Missoula and found out he and his pal laid those tracks...........going up.....dam it was fast going down through the uphill ruts.

Mitch.............thanks for the pictures from mid week at the cabin etc.

Next week expo..........ride some Wy /Id snow, see if its whiter ?

friday the 18th

sunny, road breaking up, no problem towing my covered two place to gravel pit, little tight on tunring around but ok, slow going though as road snow cover is breaking up, lots of water running down road by the time we left.

hard snow with 2" of thursday morning fuzz. go anywhere obviously.

ride cut short in west fork when pal launched off cornice and bruised both wrists on a real hard over the bars landing..............ouch. Sunny and warm up high but snow just softened slightly by 4 pm.

SAT 4 09 road report

8 or ten rigs along the road between a mile above the gravel pit and the Mineral Mtn road. I wouldn'd pull a 4 place up the snow pack to mineral mtn road, next week end ? might be ok.

Once up a little elevation, most snow all winter, nothing really melted.

Lower foothills heading into west fork, roads snow packed and ok, south facing slope getting bare behind Prim Ranch etc. but once you go up the hill, nice ! Creeks are starting to run more even at elevation, couple of the creek crossing and spring areas had melted out some.

Rode pipestone on the bikes on Sunday, warm and fun to play in the dirt for a change.........gotta love this time of year.

anyone been up lately? i may take a spin next week after my semester tests. could anyone point me in the right direction? ive never been up there before but have walways wanted to check it out
