WE ARE HEADING TO ALBANY LODGE JAN. 3-7. THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME OUR GROUP HAS EVER BEEN TO THE SNOWIES. WE'VE BEEN TO WEST YELLOWSTONE, COOKE, AND THE HORNS. WE MOSTLY LIKE RIDING MEADOWS, BOONDOCKIN, AND SIDE HILLIN' ON SOME AVERAGE STUFF. NOT TO BIG INTO STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN. ANYBODY HAVE SOME ADVISE FOR US? WHERE TO RIDE. WHERE TO STOP ALONG THE WAY FOR GAS AND A BOWL OF SOUP. ETC.
THANKS

From albany lodge you can find about anything your looking for. Wycolo has food and gas but check the hours of operation. As far as going the other way pack your lunch and some gas. It's a 20 mile ride to the topside and the only gas and food up there is the ryan park area now.

Albany is a good spot to ride from for boondockin, just pick a route and go. In general - head north and west for the best snow.

But, like sabels said, watch your fuel if you head too far north/west - (unless you hit one of the spots in Ryan park for food/fuel).

Hey, guess what! Its almost 2011 and some people still can't figure out what the CAPS LOCK key is?!?

There is plenty of snow to find by Albany right now! I just got back today from staying in a cabin 2 miles south of Albany. We never got past Rob Roy, (9 miles from the lodge). The snow was so deep and good we didn't need to!

Stay out of the French creek area. Never been down there but I here it's tough to get out of. Good news is there's free lodging at the snow cave inn.

On another note you'll love the snowys. Way bigger than Cooke and not as technical. If the snow is all packed down just go farther back there's enough for everyone. Have a fun and safe trip. Don't forget to check out revbarrons post about his survival/emergency kits he puts out.

Snowys are awesome, Albany is a nice place to stay, I personally stay at Wycolo because of the price, food, beer and they are friends of mine!! Down south, near Wycolo, there is alot of meadows, creeks and mellow back country to ride in as well as some main and backwoods trails! The avy danger stays realatively low and there is something for everyone which is my main attraction to the south Snowies since I take anywhere from brand new couples to my stupid crazy buddies. Up north is great though as well for a little steeper terrain, parks and hills. I will actually be up there with my wife and possibly a couple buddies during that time, prolly 4th and 5th, we'll stay at Wycolo, there always open for me, and prolly ride up to Albany for breakfast or lunch one day. Let me know if u wanna see the south side my way or just hook up for a couple cases of brew!!

aw French Creek isnt that bad you can come outta there. check it all out you will like it out there less steep than cooke

I know i should search it first but got any directions as to where exactly the French Creek area is? I know the general area but i have no idea where its located? Libby flats is named on most maps you see but not the French Creek area you hear about all the time...

Not to be a jerk, but do you have any references? Maybe some of the area locals that have a good Rep. power rating and maybe 1000+ posts here as many of them do could recommend you?

I am interested in a guide, but with the snowest rating you currently have, I would be a little leery to pay too much before you showed me the ride.

Let me know, I will be there this weekend...
