Go w-y-o!!!!

there was no parking whatsoever on campus
was? was!?

You do know about the new construction, right? The Business Building revamp is getting rid of the parking lot that used to be there off of Ivinson. The new IT abomination that they built took about half the parking between the Crane/Hill complex and the Fine Arts building. Commuters are no longer allowed to park in Resident areas, and the Commuter passes are now only good for a portion of the Fine Arts parking lot.

I hear tell that they are planning more construction to get rid of more of the parking. Makes a person wonder if they are trying to make UW into a "walking campus."

The way I look at it is UW is completely and utterly retarded. They are running things the way they are because they are the only option in the state. not to mention they are still the cheapest University in the nation even though they've been raising tuition every semester for two years now. Though, this could have ended by now, my first hand experience ends as of Jan 01 of this year. Hell, last time I checked people could still come from Colorado, pay the WUE rate (1.5 times in-state IIRC) and pay less then CU, CSU, or any of the other Colorado schools.

If UW wanted to actually make money again, period, they could quit dumping student funds into worthless athletic programs and actually give some back to the students.

I guess there is a reason the UW motto is WIN OR LOSE WE STILL BOOZE!!! not that gay crap Joe Glenn wants us to use "Powder river, let'er buck." WTF is that supposed to mean anyway?

on a side note, I don't want to come off as talking down to people who have graduated from UW or whatever ... I did my time there too, but there was a damn good reason I left is all I'm saying and that I think the UW board of trustees is smoking crack and that they've wasted so much wyoming taxpayer money on pointless **** there otta be lawsuits over it :)

If you gentlemen truly understood how the athletic programs work in D1, D2, D3, etc. you might have a different outlook on such matters. Do I agree with a lot of the money spent on certain additions? No. But that doesn't take away the fact that the sport of football on a constant annual basis brings in the majority of the sports revenue for READ: all schools with a football program. Wyoming most likely received a check from the University of Tennessee for over a cool million just for that game. Would basketball, track, swimming, etc. bring in that amount...no. Not dissing on any other athletic programs just stating a fact. The point of this thread was to actually give a team some credit for winning a game that they surley needed. Yes, Wyoming isn't the best team in the Mountain West. We all know that, but it's hard to compare teams that have 21 year old freshmen that go on missions and have personal trainers helping them get bigger and stronger and playing against 18/19 year old players and trying to compete. Or armed forces teams that have an "unlimited" amount of players for summer camp tryouts! Say what you will, but not bad for a state with a population that doesn't even come close to hitting the million mark. This thread is about football, right? It's the same @ every school...TCU, Ohio State, Utah, the list is too long. I have several friends that play in the NFL from different teams and every school goes through the same thing. Football is king in college athletics:beer;

This is hilarious.

On the front page of the Red Star today ...

"UW Seeks $35,000,000 to build executive suites and new seating at War Memorial Stadium"

I laughed so hard I spit my cereal all over the paper.

I'm not even gonna touch this ...

:D

C'mon Supplicate, Tell us how your really feel.:D
I could keep going :D

I did my time there too, but there was a damn good reason I left is all I'm saying
Same here. For all the people that can stay at UW and just turn a blind eye to all the bullsh!t that goes on, no offense meant.

Athletics have very little to do with my view of UW. My only complaint is they continually were raising student fees while I was there and the only answer I ever received as to a reason was so they could pay for the practice field.

I do understand what you are saying. All of the new facilities(weight room, practice field, locker rooms, etc.) is new since i went to UW. The parking garage fiasco? It is b.s. The parking is horrible around the school and the garage should have been built in the 80's/90's. People need to remember that the football team is not the only "group" that use the new facilities. When I played the weight room was under the stadium and water always dripped onto the floor from the stands above. Did I care? He!! no, I just wanted to win; which we did very well:) It's truly sad that sport heroes make millions and we bust our a$$ just to scrape by sometimes. The only ones that can stop that are the fans! Wyoming spends quite a bit less money than other Mountain West schools on their athletic programs!

the weight room under the stadium wasn't the only thing at UW with a leaky ceiling when I was there.

It was a pathetic joke the shape the dorms were in when I was there in 99'.

All I am saying is that with all the money UW spends on that football program, do they even come CLOSE to breaking even?

I cannot possibly see how $35,000,000 wouldn't be better spend on something(s) acedemic related instead of throwing even more money at a losing football program.

I will digress again, I am not trying to sound condescending towards anyone who goes to UW, has gone to UW, played football there, whatever, I am just saying that I have an incredibly hard time seeing the justification for throwing money at this program considering how much money has already been thrown at it with no better results.

I understand other school spend more on their athletic programs that UW does, but generally speaking they are also a lot bigger schools. UW just isn't a big enough school and will probably never be a big enough school to have a truly competitive D1 football program. If they haven't had a competitive football program by now, they never will.

$35,000,000 is a lot of money that should go towards making the university a better place for the majority of students. They don't need it in the football program. Wyoming is doing the same thing that the majority of schools do in trying to get bigger and better. If there was more than one university in the state I would understand your postion even more. Wyoming is the second richest state in the nation(Alaska being 1), and the boosters are set about making Wyoming more legitimate. Wyoming doesn't finish at the bottom of the Mountain West every year. The history of the football program has overall been mediocre. I am just as surprised as you. The dorms did suck when I lived at White. Wyoming right now has huge booster donations(Jonah Fields) and that is where a large portion of the money is from. Do you not believe the same situations occur at BYU, Utah, TCU, CSU, etc?

If they are not truly a competitive team, why did they come away with a win against Tennessee? Or Mississippi, Texas A&M, BYU, Utah, UCLA, etc? These are all teams that Wyo has beat that have beat top caliber teams from all over the nation. That's just how it goes. Look what Tiller did with Purdue! He took a west coast style offense and will retire with a very successful record:confused:

I would agree, with UW being the only real game in town they can pretty well do what they want. I would definatley support it if the state wanted to turn Casper College into a true 4-year university ... preferably a "Wyoming School of Mines" ;) ... that'd be great.

But, with other schools doing what they're doing to become bigger and better ... all this is great, but let's face it, the population of Wyoming hasn't changed much in 20 years. Yeah it's grown recently, but we're still the least populated state in the nation, and all the money they throw at UW to try and turn it into a premeir school isn't going to change the fact that it's located in Laramie Wyoming ...

The other issue here is, and this is not just to single out UW because the whole state "acts this way" so to speak ... the budget surplus we've enjoyed the last several years that has enabled crap like this to be pushed through (again I say not just things with UW but everywhere else) is going to come to a crashing halt in the next several years.

A $35,000,000 masturbatory seating arrangement for the football stadium is quite honestly the worst possible way they could be spending that right now.

They would do best to SAVE what money they have for a rainy day, because the way the state has been spending money, especially UW, is going to bankrupt the coffers if they keep it up for the next two years ...

Other schools, TCU, BYU, etc ... they have sources of income that don't revolve around highly political industries, IE, the oil and gas industry. Let's face it, the energy industry has paid for UW the last several years, as well as basically everything else in this state.

I dunno, I don't mean to sound like a *****, but I really just completley disagree with the general focus and direction that the UW board of trustees has allowed certain presidents to take. UW is not, has never been, nor will ever be some premier top-dog look at me woohoo school like CU or even BYU ... It's just not gonna happen, and people would do best to wake up and realize this.

The focus of UW should not be on athletics. They are NEVER going to have truly competitive D1 programs. Again, it's in Laramie WY....it's just not gonna happen.

They could however, focus on undergraduate academic programs and recruiting, much the same way Montanna Tech does. That should be the primary focus, however when they keep putting *******s like Phillip Dubois (I know he isn't there anymore but he was a prime example) in there who just wanna put a feather in their cap and move on to a bigger university, UW and the citizens of Wyoming are the ones who pay the price.

When I was looking at going back to UW after I got done at CC (yes I considered returning just because hell, it's UW) I called their placement office and the guy I talked to couldn't even tell me how many companies they had come recruit at the last COE career fair there. He almost acted like they didn't even know if they had one or not, and he also didn't know what % placement they had for that school. It could have been that I was just talking to a dumbass, but either way, I wasn't very impressed.

However, according to Dubois (and those previous presidents like him), UW was a "vocational school" ... so we gotta change that! ...

So now it's basically a boarding house for academic rejects from Moobuktoo, Zimbabwe, Iran, wherever that couldn't get into a graduate program at any other school, so they come to UW, suck up all our resources, and leave. Great ... glad we have the "premier research university on the plains" ...

The focus at UW has been ANYTHING but undergraduate academics the last 10 years ... that is not in the best interests of the people of Wyoming.

ok I am sorry I will shut up now.

hah :)

You just won't give up!!! Casper College? Agree. So you believe that New Mexico, Air Force, Hawaii, Fresno State, UTEP, San Diego State and all of the other teams that once shared the WAC aren't legitimate D1 schools? The only teams that Wyo usually struggles against are TCU,BYU, Utah, and New Mexico. Wyoming is usually ranked in the top 20 teams for offense so why the beef? Casper would be a much better location, but it's just the way it is. There are plenty of schools that are in crappier locations. Have you been to Laramie recently? It has changed quite dramatically in the last 2 years!
