Hey guys, im thinking about picking up an 09 M1000. this is a hard decision because I've always been a fan of the quick, high revving 7 & 8 motors. I weigh 200 lbs before gear. What are your thoughts, pros and cons. Thanks

Love mine, 200hp rated, 462lbs with all fluids except gas, haven't seen a m8 that would touch it less a turbo, I weigh 210lbs plus gear.

Same here. No way I'd go 800 without one of those spinny things attached to it.

The 1000 is easy to pull weight from & very easy to find more power from.

I really want an 09 M1000 , that is a VERY nice sled . I ride a TM8 and dream about an 09 TM1000.:beer;

200 hp??Sorry, but i don't think so!Not even on flatland.Let alone up at elevation.

So you dont think you can get 200hp out of a 1000?

Ok so back to the thread. I ride a modded M1k but I think I would reconsider the new 800 if I was buying new this year. Only because I know I would be putting a turbo on it. I know the 1000 has more potential but the 1k does feel a bit bulky. The new 8 makes good power and is very tempting, tough call

m1000

Now, i didn' say you couldn't get 200 hp out of a 1000!There is no doubt about that.I just thought he was saying that a stock m1000 was putting out 200hp.Not bashing anyone,hell you can get400 hp if you want.My m8t was putting out 240 hp.Back to the subject sorry.

I think for the same amount of money put into each the m1000 has more potential.
.

I agree , a TM1000 on pump gas will destroy a race gas TM8 at 12 lbs . I would never ride an 8 at less than 10 lbs , let alone NA . If i am forced to ride my 8 this year it will be on Sunoco 112 and 116 mixed .

The 09 M1000 is one bad Arse ride NA or on boost , if you are 165 lbs with gear get an 8. I am in love with the M1.:rose::o:beer;

I just went FROM an 07 M1000 to an 09 M8. Of course that will be with a PG turbo....... The 1000 is too fat in the front.

I go 250 with gear.

at best the 09 m1000 is 15lbs heavier than a 09 8 and put out more power. I have about $1,600 of extras on my 09 m1000 and like I said its about 462lbs and rated (at sea level 200hp) thats 2.31lbs per hp. the 07 I had was heavier but the 09 just as well be a diff chassis its a unstoppable monster. This I am building a mesh hood and custom seat that will put me in the 440lbs area. First thing is going to be a whole bunch of motor mount work though.
I'm right around 250lbs with gear. A m8 with slp porting package/pipe. wont keep up

I'm basically in the same boat can't decide between a 2010 m8 162 or 09 m1000 162, the only thing holding me back from the 1000 is the belt issues I hear about, I weigh 220 and just want to pull the rope and ride.

Belt issues are not more with the 1000 than any other. 700 miles on my first belt. They come WAY OFF fromthe factory as far as alignment.

Its all about keeping your clutches clean and proper setup.

Do it..

Do it... no regrets... ever. Tons of potential and someone of your size will have NO problems throwing the 1k around. I wouldn't trade the power for anything in the world, it just keep pulling with 8's die out. Pull the trigger and then start saving for a turbo...
