Here is an excerpt from todays avy report. I just thought it was so interesting other people should see it. Also if you have a few minutes check out the YouTube video the guys put up. They do a lot of youtube videos which are very interesting. This slide was absolutely huge.

Yesterday, Doug and I checked out a massive avalanche that partially buried and injured a snowmobiler on Scotch Bonnet Mountain, just north of Cooke City. I was amazed with the size of the avalanche and the distance over which the fracture propagated. The 2-3 foot crown line was over a mile wide, and the avalanche ran 1500 vertical feet on south to east aspects. Numerous natural avalanches have occurred on Henderson, Sheep, Miller, Mineral and Republic Mountains. We experienced widespread collapsing which never ceases to scare the heck out of me. Even though we were tempted with great riding conditions, we carefully avoided terrain over 30 degrees and even flat terrain connected to steep slopes because we felt it would be easy to trigger an avalanche. You can view a video clip of Doug on Scotch Bonnet at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuc45gxLBc4

That was amazing that they both survived! I'm not riding Cooke this weekend!

You just can't say enough about the job those guys do, they are awsome. It's just too bad some people don't read the advisories; or just don't pay attention to them.

a sleeping giant. . .

huge was an understatement, that crown line was MASSIVE!
good thing this took place during the week, ya think.
kudos to the AVI-Guys from mtavalanche.com they go above & beyond!

What Brandon said ^

Ran into those guys a couple times up Lulu last year. I just wish people would pay attention to the reports. They're not just telling us this for the good of their health...

Damn, that's a huge crown line. Glad to see the guys made it out alive. Good reason why I don't even play on those chutes below Lulu. I don't even like going up the far east one closest to the cabins to get up on top (where the guy got killed last year).

I get the e-mail messages daily here at home from these guys. I noticed for about the last several days they were reporting the snow level increases but did not commit to an actual Avi danger rating, stating it would be speculation because they hadn't had the chance to get to Cooke for any testing. They did for the first ime yesterday state even without an inspection that they would rate the danger as "High" on any slope with a 30 degree or greater incline.
