GMC 6.0 litre towing/2place vs 4 place

I will be pulling 3 sleds 1000 miles from MN to Island park...any thoughts on 2 sleds on a trailer and 1 in the box vs the 3 sleds on a 4 place open trailer? Will mileage be that much worse with the 4 place or about the same?

Woudl be nice to use my box for luggage

I have done this exact thing just with a 05 1500 5.3 chev. It gets 1-2 mpg better with one in back and the 2 place behind. And the truck seemed to do better with that then pulling the 4 place. I have towed the 4 place with 3 and 4 sleds on it and it does fine just a little more gas. The 6.0 wont care as much with the 4 place so that would be what i would do. When we did it we were towing a 2 place triton with the fiberglass enclosure on it so we just put all of our gear inside the trailer.

i figure one in the truck and 2 on a 2 place. seems it would be lighter without the extra weight of a 4 place trailer. One less axle with tires equates to a lot of weight. Also seems to center the weight better if some is on the truck vs all behind the truck

Take the four place. Fuel mileage difference between the 2 set ups will not differ significantly. A tandem axle trailer could save the trip if you have trailer tire or wheel bearing problems. Plus it is much more convenient to load the third sled on the trailer instead of into the pickup.

6.0 towing

I used to have a 04 Chevy 2500 hd with bullydog and flowmaster muffler. It didn't matter what I towed, mileage was the same. Depends on your gearing as gm switched different rearend gearing for different trucks. Mine had the 3.73 gears that switched to 3.55 on the highway. I towed a full-size ford and car trailer 235 miles, and the difference was 4 gallons more used than empty. So 2 or 4 place it really shouldn't make much difference.

take the 4-place open, the 6.0L will probably get ~12 mpg towing that trailer and probably 11.5 towing the 2 place.

I think you are dreaming here. My brother towed a 4 place with his 08 6.0 and he got between 7-8 mpg on the whole trip from Minnesota to wyoming a couple of weeks ago. My 05 5.3 got between 10-11 mpg towing the 2 place following him. We also made the same trip a month before with a 08 F-250 with a 6.4 powerstroke pulling a 4 place floe and could barely get 6 mpg. All that being said i would still pull the 2 place with one in the back. I have done it both ways with my 05 5.3 and the 2 place always pulls easier.

2002 6.0 GMC Crew w/topper shell, 265 tires, 4.10 gears and typically get 8-10mpg doing 1150mile round trips @ 75mph on interstate.

That is pulling a 2 place open and includes 150 miles of 65mph mtn roads.
