GM hangs by a thread!!!

In 2007 GM sold the most vehicles in company history. Also in 2007 credit was so easy to come by a 17 year old kid could walk out of any dealership with a vehicle. High volume, easy credit. Nothing better.............

But in 2007 GM lost 40 billion dollars.

GM's problem is not that they can't sell vehicles, their problem is that they can't make money selling vehicles. The more vehicles they sell the more they lose.

1 - Their manufacturing/management cost are higher.
2 - Americans refuse to pay anyware near MSRP price for a big three product like they do for Toy/Hon.

Bingo!!!! They lose money on every car thay build, Only the big trucks and suvs are still money makers.
There cost is so high thay can't compete.

When you giving 8 to 12K rebates on SUV's and Trunks, your not making money.

The place GM is making their money is in China. Sales are up and the chinese people are paying very near MSRP for the vehicles.

Kind of ironic, China supports a US company by paying $$$ for a vehicles but americans force GM to lose money by demanding huge price cuts.

So U blaim people because we will not pay Retail???....... No one made GM sell for below cost that was there Idea( also there Idea to give the UAW all that thay gave them). For many years the Jap's and others made better cars, not so anymore but very hard to bring people back after u sell them chit time and time again. Burn me once shaim on u burn me twice shaim on me.

No blame, just thought it was kind of ironic.

Guess they need to figure out how many people are willing to pay near MSRP for one of their products and then make exactly that many vehicles, no more.

Being #1 is the not one that sells the most vehicles. Maybe now that the knucklehead Wagner's gone the'll figure that out.

40 Billion dollar loss but Wagner got Millions in his bonus?

Here could be a bit part of the loss
2007 Chevy Silverado Classic LT 5.3L has 739 TSB's
2007 Ford F-150 XL 5.4L 47 TSB's
2007 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L 59 TSB's
2007 Nissan Tittan SE 5.6L 91 TSB's
2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 5.7L 83 TSB's

TSB's are Technical Service Bulletin's & I look @ them as opratunities to visit the dealer.
When I worked @ the dealer a lot of parts needed for the TSB repairs were covered under warranty because of the cheap parts saving the company big money.
Penny smart & dollar foolish!

Bottom line...the UAW is going to destroy GM.

People talk about how good Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc. are. Well, they don't abide by the same union rules. GM spends about $7000 for every car they build to pay UAW dues, costs, retirement, etc. That takes away from the R&D that GM could be putting into their fleet to make great stuff.

I really think GM has some great vehicles out there or coming. No doubt there was some garbage and over-rebadging in the last serveral years.

Good Stuff:
Camaro
Cadillac CTS (especially the V!)
Corvette (continually getting better)
Silverado (solid half-tons and great diesels)
GMC Arcadia, Terrain and Denalis (sweet truck motors)
Volt
Pontiac G8 GXP (rear wheel and fast)
Cadillac Escalade
Suburban
Chevy Malibu

I could make a bigger list of some bad stuff GM has.

A friend of mine works @ the UAW training center on Black Lake, When Ford & Chrysler workers come in for training it's straight forward training & no BS.
When GM workers come in for training it's training, open bar, entertainment spend spend spend arrogance:(

a friend just bought a new denali with a sticker of $72,000. WTF

Sorry but your friend is nutts!!!!!

Here is a GM/UAW feel good story
4-5 years ago GM had a training seminar, When you pull onto the training center there is a guard shack that checks your vin # if your vin starts with 1 in made in USA, 2 Canada, 3 Mexico
To drive on the train center you must have a vin starting with 1 & all others are directed to a holding lot to wait for the van to pick up you & your lugage. A newly promoted GM/UAW member showed up driving her new Cadillac Escalade & was directed to the holding lot to wait for the van.
This black lady absolutly lost it because she could not drive inside the training center grounds with he new made in Mexico Escalade. Here is where the story gets funny, She pulls the race card & calls 911 because she is being discriminated against by not being allowed to drive on the grounds. Police show up & Her boss's show up to get her settled down & explain to their newly promoted GM/UAW representative that the vehicle she brought was not made in the USA by UAW workers :D:eek::D

Typical...... Say one thing, do another. It was just a threat by O and GM probably knew it and that's why they've been delaying what will likely eventually happen anyway.

What the heck, it's only money. My kids wont mind working for China, or grandkids for that matter.

Then stop complaining and go out and buy a car.

The bail out money should go directly to the consumer. Buy a new car, get a huge cheque from the government.

Lmao! That will probably be the way it works when the FED takes over GM. The end of December I almost picked up a new 08 GMC 2500 Quad Cab Duramax 4x4 for $33,000 out the door, I priced that same truck 1 year ago @ $53,000 OTD
Sounds like a good deal but in this economy who in their right mind wants to stroke a payment book?
