GGB Can is Ready!!!!

Couple questions on can

I am wondering this is for a 2013 pro rmk i was looking at the hps can how does this can compare in price, sound, weight, performance, ect any help with this would be great. First polaris so not sure of what mods and manufactures to use. Thanks

Does your can have metal baffles or fiberglass packing in it? Any pics of the trail can and specs for the 13 pro 800?

That mountain can for the pro looks like it uses the lower mount that is found on the 11/12 but is not used on the 13. I was very interested in the ggb can over the hps for my 13 pro...i know the hps doesnt use a lower mount. Wonder if the ggb can would mount up the same on a 13 as the hps?

The pics attached are designed for the 2013 pro, not the 11 or 12.

Ok, lots of good questions from everyone. I just got pics of the new trail can. I'm going to do my best to post enough info to hopefully answer everyones question. Remember, you can always call GGB direct. Ask for Graham and tell him you saw it on SnoWest and talked to Steelman. I'm working with Graham to promote his product here on SnoWest and by letting him know, it will let us know if it is working or not. Please below info.

Thanks,
Rob

Mountain Models

GGB Lightweight Mountain mufflers provide a huge weight savings with an aggressive exhaust note. Each system fits securely in the stock location and weigh in at a mere 3.5 - 6 pounds each. Muffler is finished in a high heat satin black and installs without any modifications. This Mountain muffler is designed specifically for use in areas where increased sound levels are not an issue.

Trail Models

GGB Trail mufflers offer a true, trail tuned sound that won't draw unwanted attention or leave you "sound fatigued" at the end of the day. Each system is designed to fit securely in the stock location, using stock mounts and weigh between 5 -7.5 pounds each. All GGB trail mufflers are built with sound control in mind and offer awesome performance without all the noise. Each muffler is finished in a high heat satin black and installs without any modifications.

Our tests were taken 3 feet from exhaust outlet at a 45° angle back, 1 foot off the ground. Unfortunately this is not how the SAE or enforcement perform the test but it gives a comparison. We will perform proper tests this winter.

Tested - 2012 RUSH 800

Idle 3500rpm (just before engagement)
Stock - 86 94
GGB Trail - 90 97
Mountain - 91 104

The Trail can will meet SAE J-2567. The Mountain can will not.

SAE standard test 88 decibels

*Jan. 2004 SAE J2567 stationary test overview: The sound meter microphone is placed 4 feet above the ground, inline with the exhaust outlet/center point of multiple exhaust outlets, on the side of the snowmobile toward which the exhaust is directed, 4 meters distance from the snowmobile longitudinal centerline. The operator holds the brake during the test, starts and runs the engine up to normal operating temperature, then slowly opens the throttle until a steady 3,750 to 4,000 rpm is achieved for not less than 4 seconds. The test is immediately repeated and the two readings averaged.

2 Stroke
In a two-stroke engine a certain amount of exhaust backpressure is needed to prevent unburned fuel/air mixture from passing right through the cylinders into the exhaust. This is acheived by the expansion chamber directly connected to the exhaust port of the engine. The expansion chamber connsists of 5 main sections: Header, Diffuser or Inverter cone, Mid section, Baffle cone and finally a Stinger. The stinger acts as a "pressure bleed valve" before exhaust gasses leave the pipe and must be sized properly to create a "plugging effect" necessary to reach maximum performance. If the stinger is oversized exhaust will escape to soon, if it is undersized to much heat will be created in the pipe and the engine. The stinger size can either make or break the pipes ability to perform as designed. As the exhaust wave has not yet reached the atmosphere, the same holds true for the muffler. The muffler acts as an extension of the stinger and must maintain the correct back pressure (plugging effect) or performance levels will suffer as a result.

General thinking for a performance muffler is that bigger (more flow) is better. While this is true to a point on a 4 stroke engine, this is not the case on a 2 stroke engine. A 2 stroke muffler must be tuned to the expansion chamber to provide proper back pressure levels.

After the back pressure values of the muffler are determined the sound attenuation of the muffler must be addressed. While there are numerous different muffler designs available on the market, most mufflers for internal combustion engines use passive silencing methods. These muffers fall into two general categories, reactive and dissipative mufflers. Reactive mufflers make use of seperate chambers and defelctors to direct sound back to the source and are generally better at reducing low frequency sound waves. Dissipative mufflers generally use a straight flow through design with perforated screen and filler materials scrubbing off sound waves and transforming them into heat. This type of muffler is usually best at reducing medium to high frequencies. With that in mind, a quieter high performance muffler would combine the two technologies and cancel a wider range of sound waves. And this is exactly the DNA of which the GGB trail muffler is created from.

4 Stroke
As we mentined, bigger is better when it comes to exhaust flow on a 4 stroke motor. While this is true to a point for peak power, bottom end and mid range power can suffer from to loose of an exhaust (to much flow). Exhaust temperatures inside a tube can very significantly, from as high as 500 to 1300° F with the average sonic wave traveling at approximately 1700 feet per second. If an exhaust systems tube diameter (flow) is to large for the engine's displacement, wave speeds will slow down, exhaust temps will drop, bottom and mid range power can suffer, as well as the fuel economy. For the best overall performance all GGB 4 stroke mufflers on this site are designed and built for for stock and improved stock engines. If you have a heavy mod engine contact us about a high flowing muffler.
