GF wants a dog for Christmas

So she's been droppin hints about a dog for christmas. I like big n lazy. She just wants a dog. I'm thinkin bullmastiff or great dane. BIG, lazy, don't wanna be walked, just sit around. Anybody wanna give their 2 cents?

Roscoe's dog was a Basset Hound. I thought they were lazy too when I bought one. I must have picked out the worlds only hyper Basset. Her name's Daisy (after the Dukes of Hazzard) I also have a 1 year old German Shepard named Duke. The shepard is very loyal protective and listens very very and is awesome with my kids. The Basset doesn't listen and roams around alot. Some neighbors of my in-laws have a mastiff and it seems like a good dog. A friend of my wife's has a great dane and it is THE dumbest dog I can think of.

Those are generally big, and lazy because of the high possibility of joint/hip issues. I would avoid the giant breeds unless you like huge vet bills. If you aren't concerned with having a particular breed, get a mutt from the shelter.
If you are set on a breed, seek a reputable breeder that breeds for health and temperment and has a written health guarantee. Do not buy if they cannot provide this, as well as provide copies of health checks on both parents. The particular health checks will vary from breed-breed, some breeds recommend heart, hip or eye checks to help reduce the health issues associated with that breed.
Maybe look at Malamute, Samoyed, Lab (hyper), Rottweiler. Lots of good breeds, just try to learn as much about that breed before you commit.

im the owner of a lab,... i love him to death but, hes fuggin nuts!!! ;)

i have had a samoyed, it was way beyond fuggin nuts... (do not get one)...

id say, get a ****zu.. my sister has one, it really is a great little dog... not at all a manly dog but, its a cool dog...

Old mother hubbard went to the cupboard to get her doggy a bone ....when she bent over old Rover drove her cuz he had a bone of his own .......heyyyy !!!! :)

She doesn't want A cat she wants HER cat. But as soon as I'm near that thing my eyes start waterin, sneezin, nose runnin. It's like torture. Still wants the little beast there tho.

Cat is at her folks. I won that battle. Now she wants a dog.
She has never lived without a pet. I would gladly take the dog off her folks hands but she needs too much room to run and we just don't have it. Now i'm thinkin bulldog.

Get a bulldog, cute as hell, lazy and great personalities.

I personally have pitbulls but alot of people hate them for their name. They are lazy as hell as well and are loyal like no other. Just my .02

Find an ad that reads: "Large mixed breed puppies, free to good home" - go check out the mom, if she has a good disposition, get u one! :)

Man be real careful, first it's a puppy, then it's a kid!!!! Watch Out, it's a trap!!! RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!

If you are looking for a good lazy nice dog, check into the standard poodles. The little poodles are pretty much fuggin worthless high maintenance pains in the azz, but the full size poodles are actually pretty cool. Our friends have one, and our neighbors just adopted one and both are two of the coolest dogs I have been around. Bonus is they don't shed, but you do have to have them groomed.

No, a lot of people hate them for their demeanor. The name just happens to follow the breed. I like all dogs, but time and time again I see with my own eyes why pitbulls are not good dogs. JMHO.

Met a dog last night at the bar which looked much like a standard poodle, but the owner said she was a boovea or something like that (it was late into the night). She was 120 lbs and was solid as a rock. He said after WWII there were only 400 of them left as the germans killed them all as they contended with the standard poodles that they had trained to kill the allies. Don't know the truth to that.

Personally, I gotta have a hunting dog...currently have a shorthair who is an awesome dog. My next dog will be another wirehaired pointer though, their demeanor just fits me better, and they will hunt anything you point at.
