Hey Guys..

While working the the shop last night, i made a couple handy tools. One is Pretty simple while the other one is a life saver! Here you go..

First one was how the heck am i going to lift my engine out and or just up.. With only ONE Person... Hmm.. I got it.. So i found a old BR9ES Laying around put it in the Vise and and broke it all apart ... then found large NUT About 1 1/4.. Welded it to the top of the now broken spark plug!! I did this to two of them!!

WOW .. I have a engine lift now!! i put a strap through them and lifted with my engine hoist!!

Second Tool i came across as NEEDING.. Hmm i got the engine lifted up a good 2 1/2 feet.. Trying to replace the front left engine mount... Got the air hammer in there... No Luck,, Got a Huge BFH out no luck.. HMM thinking there has got to be a better Way!!

Yes there is.. MAKE a Socket to go right over the engine Mount!! Bingo!! I am in Biz!!! 20 min later here's what i came up with!!

I put a 1/2 Impact on it.. Motor Mount came right out.. I even tighten the new one in with my new tool!!

So Guys.. Post your Home made TOOLS!!!!

You always have to have the right tool for the job!!

Let me know what u think..

I can give you all the sizes i used! ????

So if I read this right, you're pulling and suspending your engine by the spark plug holes in the head? Maybe it's just me but that doesn't seem like the best idea...

Nice work on the motor mount socket though.

Yes.. using both holes!

It works great.. Threading the old spark plugs all the way in... there is so much thread there ... your no going to wreck any thing!

lol.. hel* Sea-Doo sells the tool!! to take your engine out of your jet skis!! It got to work!! lol

Pulling model t engines back in the day using the spark plug hole lifting eye adapters was common practice.

I dropped my 700 VES into the chassis on Sunday. I needed a way to set the thing in while being able to hold the hoses and cables out of the way. I pulled my old top post battery carrying strap off the wall and bolted the eyes under each spark plug. It resembled the old mountain straps we used to fab up before they were cool. I was then able to lower the engine in with one hand while holding the junk out of the way with the other. Once the motor sat down I unbolted the plugs and hung the strap back up. Just be careful that the locking piece doesn't come up and bust the ceramic of the plug.

Good one...

Yea.. working in the shop.. with one person..

You can come up with some great new tools... makes it a one man Job!!

Thanks Guys!!

I pull engines out of cars with about that. Its a good Idea, to bad I just threw away a bunch of old spark plugs

Heck yea! :face-icon-small-hap Guys have been doing this for years, especially with PWC/sleds. Works awesome.

Good post NAPA. It seems not all have been pointed towards the tricks :face-icon-small-ton

Years back, one of the best things I learned in a motorsports tech program was the ole shoe lace for spring tool. Almost the only thing I took away in new knowledge from the schooling. lol

I have used the spark plug trick, really no different than an eye bolt used to lift several hundred pounds, totally safe! The motor mount wrench is ingenious thanks for the post.
