Getting in! - conversion selection & suspension

Hey guys, new member, first post. I've been holding out for fear of this sport cutting into my 46 year skiing addiction, but I'm afraid I'm going to take the plunge this year!

Long time dirt rider, riding singletrack in UT & ID. Of the dirt bikes I own my '14 KTM 350 EXC-F would be best suited for a snowbike conversion - so I plan to start with that. I'm also 60 and slender weighing in at 145 lbs. I consider myself to be a charger on skis and B rider in dirt. My thought is to bolt up a kit to the 350 to see how I like the sport - I figure I can always upgrade to a big bore later if necessary.

My question, is the weight savings of the a Yeti 129 kit over a TS ST120 or others, going to be advantageous (quicker, more nimble) given my light weight and the fact I'd be riding a 350EXC? I know there are other considerations and advantages to each mfgs conversion kits having read many comparisons here to consider besides just the weight... I'm trying to maximize the fact I'll already be down on power to start with and wondering if a lighter kit will help offset that.

Also, is the long travel upgrade a must have? I don't see myself launching cornices or cliff drops....but floater airs and small drops most likely.

What do you think? :beer;

Your 350 will power a Timbersled short track just fine. That's what i would get if I were you. The 2016 2 1/2 track makes a huge difference on the TS short track.

Give it some time to get used to riding the TS. Its a different animal from a bike. But once you get it you will love it.

And make sure to ride with other Snowbikes you do not get the same experience riding with snowmobiles
