Getting Deep in Northern CO

There is great riding there, no doubt. I can go ride there and not see anyone else. :face-icon-small-win

I'll share my stash if you share your stash!

LOL

I am in FOCO 4 days a week usually so it would be nice to find something a bit closer to home.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm? The Snowies? Hell of a lot closer to the Fort than Vail or RE, plus you don't have to deal with the Skier traffic

I ride Vail Pass/Red and White because I work in the Vail area (Edwards). We ride RE because it is easy for me to head back home to FOCO and the guys I ride with to get back to Eagle CO.

We have rode the snowies a few times but in all honesty the few times I have been up there the conditions sucked, completely wind blown. Maybe I am going to the wrong spots (more than likely).

What is the riding on Cameron Pass like?

Edit... For anyone riding DURING THE WEEK, the traffic for VP is not bad at all. Weekends, forget it or plan on staying somewhere.

We ride Gould/American Lakes area a bunch- pretty close to Ft Collins and it is a nice change from the Snowies. Last year snow was spotty down low but got nice up top

Snowies are good but they get windblown- we spend a bunch of time in the trees north of Centennial a lot when the wind has scoured everything off

Could not pay us enough to go near I70 on the weekends

Seems all the riding areas have there secret stashes to be found. Gotta take the time to find them though.. Lotta guys ride an area a few time and give up before they even scratch the surface. Familiar terrain gets old after a while. I still need to explore the snowies a lot more. Same for CP. There a ton of terrain up there that is un-touched. On the other hand, we all have our favorites pow spots that always produce and it's hard to turn your back on a bird in the hand.

Went back up to Buff on Sat. Warm as fvck!!! The 42" of pow I rode Wed was almost all gone. Settled to about a foot or so of pow that was getting more heavy by the minute. The stick at Tower only said 2ft but we still dug down in different areas that had 3ft + still. Needs to snow bad. The Forest loggers completely screwed the road in on the Grizz creek side. I mean SCREWED!!! They had their heads up their azz and didn't get their equipment out till Saturday. They plowed most the road in and up top left 3ft deep tire trenches with their loader. Because of this the trail from the lot to a few miles in is now dirt. Completely unrideable now unless you can park up higher (without a proper turn around). I am not happy with these loggers. Only thinking of themselves. I want to know when the last day of the year they can legally get their stuff out of there. My bet is Oct 31st...

Rode Buff Thursday, the best "first ride of the season" ride I've ever had... blue sky and a lot of un-tracked powder up on top. Snotel Marker was just below 3-foot level, but we found spots that had more. Good base as I encountered very few rocks. By mid-afternoon, it was getting warm, and the snow was getting heavy... most likely that's it for Buff until the next storm hits.

Riding (working) up on the Grand Mesa in the Morning, I'll let you know what the conditions are like in the evening... not expecting it to be good due to the warm weather.

Call the USFS, they have answered all of my questions so far. And generally not dickheads about it.
