Getting back in...need advice.

The bug to ride is getting to me and I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get back in to snowmobiles. I sold my last ones about 6 years ago due to divorce but the snow is calling....

To make a long story short I mainly ride around 6,000-8,000 feet in the mountains and trails of NorCal. Some steep stuff...mainly boondoocking, some hills but nothing too radical. I'm considering a purchase of a '09 RMK 700 155" from a rental company with a couple thousand miles. Yes, that's a bunch of miles, but they maintain them regularly and the rental riders are limited to how wild they can be. Can't really beat the price for an almost new sled....$5,400. Any thoughts?

Great machine and very reliable in the 700.I say for that price you can't go wrong. This will be a big improvement over 6 yr old tec.IQ chassis is a blast too ride. You can allways by a pipe if you need a little more power also.First purchase would be a set of Robs better boards for thefootwell traction.Good luck and get out there

Yeah, I have a couple of thoughts, that is too much money for that sled. If you are living in Nor Cal get on Craig's list and look around at the Reno/Tahoe listings or the Sacramento listings. There are sleds out there for the same price with less miles. That is my two cents.

It does sound like a lot of miles.... but if it has not been abused that is worth something.

I would suggest that you get it inspected by a dealer to make sure it is sound.... this is the same thing i told the other guy that is also looking for a sled.... the cost is up to $100 ( depending on how indepth you want them to go ) but well worth the investment, you will know exactly what is wrong with it before shelling out the bucks.

Good luck with that....

For 5400 look for a nytro mtx the miles wont matter and the ride is real nice jmo Good luck, and welcome back

Per you advice I checked out craigslist and found mostly older sleds with maybe less miles but higher priced than the $5400. Any '09 or newer sled were a lot more money. I also have seen many used sleds at my dealer that most likely have the odometer disconnected for much of their life since they are beat to hell but show like 700 miles. At least from a rental dealer I have the sense they will be well maintained and true mileage. Also, for the price (unless I'm just not finding the "buys"...) seems like to only way to go for a 1 year old sled.

Yeah, but all the '09 or newer sleds I have seen have less then half the miles of the one you are looking at for maybe another grand or so. I'm sure the one you are looking at will be fine.

I will add more now that I have time. I'm in the same boat you are looking for a new/used sled. I am however waiting for a little bit of time to go by. I believe that the price of sleds will get nothing but lower as the summer comes. I have a place to store it so that isn't an issue, and the market for sleds isn't going to snap back to '07 levels anytime soon.

you can buy two 06' 900's for that price! Then you can have a back up sled in case the first 900 needs a crank after the first ride....Thats what everybody tells me. If I bought two 900's, the second one would be sitting in the garage still collecting dust because the one I ride now runs like a dream! But really, theres some 09' xp 800's out there for the same price you are looking to spend with lower miles, don't know if your set on Polaris?? Now is the time to buy, take your time and good luck.

You would love that sled. I ride the same conditions and have an 800 and a 600. Both work great, best boondocking chassis out there IMO, and the 700 is a super motor and has been very reliable for Polaris. That price is pretty good for an 09, might be nice to have a few less miles but wouldn't be a bad deal on a great sled. Might see some real good deals coming up tho with people jumping up to the PRO.

It seems my reply post to this thread has been deleted (again). I'll post one more time - my hubby rides a '98 Skidoo 670x Summit and loves it - very reliable sled, plenty of power, and you can add lots of power upgrades to it for fairly cheap. Plus, you can get one for under $2000 now. Good luck and have fun shopping!
