So i got my simmons ski today and was wondering what is the best all around setup for these. the snow tracker they have on is very short and there is no pivot setup to use.

I know someone must have made an adapter to use the pivot but which carbides do you use?

Bolt it on and ride. The short wings work as well or better than the factory ski with snow tracker. I've never had the front end wash out with the gen II. I don't have the twin axis on my gen II. I tried it without and liked it so I didn't pursue a second twin axis setup.

Where do you live and whats the riding like? I live in VT and would love to have a GEN II but I am weary of its grip on hard pack..

flats of SD

It is flat around here and we never get any snow anymore so will ride in MONTANA Mtns. I don't like riding trails but don't wanna die when I have no other choice to get to some good off trail.

I'm in AK and I ride the hills with the steep and deep as well as the lakes with hard pack. I've never had the front end wash out in either the pow or the hard pack. I imagine on ice it may be a different story. I love the floatation of the gen II with the 136". The sled just stays on top. I'd like to have another gen II for my short track as well but I need an 8 gallon tank first.

Photo of the ski please !

Only heard good stuff about Gen2 skis. Never seen one actually. Can somebody shows us a photo of this ski (profile and elevation with a measuring tape beside the photo) and and I'd like to know how wide and how long it is compared to stock.

When I was living in Qc, I had to ride grommed trails, usually with Really-hard packed / icy quebec snow and I was so damn happy with the factory ski with snow trackers, never washed out on me and did a reeeally good jab ! I was able to tilt my good'ol 121" 503 right to the point where the corner of the belly pan acts as 3rd supporting point on rock-hard packed snow ! Western powder mountain riding is such a different deal ! So much better...

Vern Simmons worked with Steve at B's Outback/Toys 4 Us/You in Hyrum UT
http://www.michigan-snowhawk.com/files/SW_DeepPowder_challenge_07.pdf

Steve had the ski as a prototype three years ago, before it was available for the Twoskis. When he came to help us two years ago at the WSSA snow show he brought it and we displayed it on our Eighthundred.

Now, depending on your snow conditions you may love or hate this ski, the only two riders here in Wa. that have bought it have gone back to the OEM ski, we have heavy wetter snow on the coast.

Simmons made a specific model of this ski since they normally sell Twoski's at a time, for the Snow Hawk, it has two extra carbides on the outside edges plus their idea of a anti darting kit, needs to be modified. it also comes with a solid non pivoting mount aka Twin Axis, our riders that tried to make the ski work went so far to adapt the their OEM Twin Axis, but still no satisfaction.

cwh, since you are happy with this ski, you should try the Twin Axis on yours and report, you can always go back.

2Moto is now including this ski with their package!

Tony's opinion to you trail riders is save your money, if you don't need flotation in "DEEP BOTTOMLESS POWDER" snow you could try the original narrow version of the Simmons ski, ask them for the mount they developed for the Hawk to go with it.

Or, unbeknown to you all I presume, the AD Boivin ski is not their design, its just a larger/wider to scale version of the OEM twin carbide ski that came on the 2002 Ski-Doo MXZ Renegade, this is the actual ski the Snow Hawk racers were using in the snocross racing days, back when all that existed was the 503F Snow Hawk, I bet there are tons of these taking up space in the back in Ski-Doo dealers across the flats, because Snowmobilers love to bling their sleds and the Ski-Doo catalog used to show it in a rainbow of colors!

Find one!

I have a gen II ski and love it. It will wash out on ice tho, It happened to me last year when I came out onto a lake that was glare ice with a skiff of fluff snow on top. ....pile drove me right to the ground, felt like Chuck Norris gave me for a good A-- whoopin. I think it makes a huge difference in the soft stuff and it holds better in a steep side hill, the track does not want to wash out as easily while sidehillin. I also feel the front end does not want to dive when getting off the throtle in the soft snow as much either.

I agree. I absolutely love the Gen II. I only rode mine with the original ski about 3 times before I switched. Huge difference for me with respect to the front end diving when you get off the gas or get on the brakes. The old ski would plunge right into the snow, but the Gen II will not. We do ride in light powder the majority of the time, and trails very little, so it works perfect for those conditions.

Great Info!

Ive been going back and forth on what ski I want to run on the 2moto this year.
The gen 1 works fine, but I wanted a wider ski for the powder, was thinking of the hawk ski. But ordered the gen 2 from 2moto the other day..
sounds like I made the right choice.

Gen II

I got my ski installed with pivot adapter today. Worked out very good i think. I used the snowhawk carbides and just cut to the needed length. I used the stock pivot adapter plate and drilled new holes to fit the gen II skeg bolt pattern. Will try and get pics on later.:D
