Gearing for a Yz 125

I was wondering what type and size of rear sprocket should I be running for my 125 in the woods? I only do woods riding, I don't want to sacrifice top end speed a lot. Although I do want to be able to lugg around. What would be the perfect middle.
Any advice is much appreciated.

Sounds like you want the best of both worlds which I think is going to be hard to get. First what tooth sprokets are you running now, front and rear? For woods riding I woundn't worry about the top end so much your not going to need it as much as the low end.

Ya, the front is a 14 and the rear is a 50. Ya, I would still like to be able to go atleast 55-60mph any ways.

i ran a 14 and 52 on my yz 125 when i raced in sand, lots of bottom,

and 14 and 50 on hard packed stuff.

ya, especially if you get into some soft stuff, or alot of tight turns. if your gonna replace just the back, i also reccomend replace the front and chain too, if you dont it will wear out your sprockets and chain fast and end up having to replace it all anyways

if i were you i would leave the rear sprocket alone, buy a 13 tooth drive sprocket and new chaine.

FLy Wheel weight. That will let you lug a bit...at least you won't have to be so high in the Rs.

Huh myabe I should get one on my 1 2 and 5. As is I run stock sprockets on mine and run in the woods. Just gotta clutch more. Best thing I did for making mine woods friendly was to install a lowering link. No lie the best mod ever.

Jayson doesn't it make it higher geared by putting a Smaller rear on? I'm going for the opposite effect. I think im just going to put a 13t on the front and call her good for now.
