i have a 800 summit x and want to regear it but i was wondering if any body had a chart that you can go by to regear it i cause i don't know for sure what gears to run or what i'm running now and i have a 74 link chain.

any info would be very helpful

how do you know what ratio you want to run and is that the same for the 800's??????

well i'm about 190 lbs with my gear on

i ride at 1400' to 1500'

and have a 144"

and the snow conditions very from deep snow to almost hard pack

I've got an 02HMX with a 151. Ride in 4000-6000ft. I run 19/46. Just put on a 163X16 inch track and changed from 8 tooth drivers to 7 tooth. Not sure yet if I'll have to change gearing again or not. From what I read most suggest anywhere from 19/45-19/47.

so does the lower ratio mean that you will have a fast accelleration off of the line or a slowwer one???

A larger diff between small sprocket and big sprocket= lower top speed, quicker accelleration though.....Smaller spread between tooth count=high top end speed, slower off the line. I have a 17/48 on my 700 with 151 and it will run 70 to 75mph indicated @8400. Pulls real hard 0 to 50. I ride mostly deep snow so I dont care about top speed. Just to give you an idea my stock gearing on my summit HM was 19/45 and it would run about 10mph faster on topend but left the line a tad slower. I went lower to slow down for deep snow in trees and work the cluches less/make less heat in deep heavy snow. My 2cents I think factory gearing is almost always too high (top end) unless you run frozen lakes. If you dont pull 80mph allot lower is better. Your drive belts will last longer too.

so could having a higher gearing cause me to be extreamly hard on my belts
