gear swap

2007 summit 800r 151", I am in the process of swapping out the 21t top gear for a 19t from team. Just curious why the oem gear is recessed where the castellated nut sits and the team gear is not? The gears are identical in width just no recessed area so the hole in the nut doesn't line up fully with the cotter pin hole in the shaft, I could use a smaller diameter cotter pin but seems hokey, anybody else experience this? TIA

come on guys, I know this is a common swap, nobody has experience with the 19t Team gear, anyone, anyone, bueller?

i didnt really think of this until you posted this
but yes i had the same issues - i went to a 20/45 ratio
I had to use a different cotter pin - mine is an 06 X

G MAN- Can't see how the gear could be out of alignment, both gears are flat on the back side, the recess is on the face of the oem gear.

Brahm- Did you use a Team gear?

Because it's not in alignment - you need a shorter spacer when using the Team gear.

not unless you are switching from a 13w to a 15w
are the 07's not already 15w though??
he didnt mention anything about changing the width, just dropping teeth

Ah, that's right, my bad. I believe BJ has some different castled nuts to allow for the thicker cotter pins when using the Team 15 wide as I recall.

Have FUN!
