Gator, Kawi Mule or Rhino? Our club looking for input.

If you want heavy duty go with a Kubota RTV all the way. Reliable diesel and hydrostatic transmission. We pack a generator, chainsaw, gravel, boulders, etc etc etc and it does great. Tops out at 25. Dump bed is linked to the engine and therefore much more powerfull than the Mule's electric hoist.

Mule's are good machines too, we have a '98 2510 with 8k+ and going strong. Tops out at 25.

Had a 660 Rhino as well, currently have the 700 efi, both are great trail machines but very very light duty compared to the RTV. These topped out at about 50.

You must be only using it on dry, level ground then. The transmission ruins the whole machine. If you run into resistance you have to stop...sometimes even shut the engine off to relieve hydro pressure so you can shift it into a lower gear or reverse. If you are going up a hill and are in the wrong gear, you have to stop as well and change gears.

I started looking seriously into getting a UTV last year. Somewhere along the line I read a Shoot out of sorts that some magazine did. They gave different machines to ranchers, and let them use the machine for an amount of time. Each rancher got to use each machine.

Results were that all were satisfied with Kaw, and Kabota as work houses, but when it came time to cover some territory, they just wouldn't go fast enough.

Overwhelmingly the feelings were even with the Polaris, and Yamaha.

Now taking it to another level:

Yamaha has a class action law suit against them for the Rhino supposedly rolling too easily at low speeds. People have been mangled by sticking out their arms and legs to catch themselves.

That leaves two choices: Get a polaris, or a yami with a wide stance kit.

I have personally used the Kawi Mule Diesel, and I don't think you can ask for something more geared towards flat out working. I used it on a farm and really put it through its paces, towing loaded hay wagons quite a distance, using it for fencing purposes, and a little 4 wheeling with it. Worked great as a work vehicle, and when you lock the differential, that thing will go just about anywhere. I would say go with the mule.
