Gates Carbon Belt = BOOM

Use the 45, we ran a 44 on one of Dan's and the wear pattern/witness marks only cover half of each belt side angle.

Edit:
Had one in our group blow a Gates carbon after 2 days of riding. Checked alignment, .110" out. All is well now.

Would this also apply to the Polaris belts on the Pro? Use 3211183 if you have the Indy Dan cut on your clutch compared to the 3211115 for stock clutches?

My gates 44C4553 exploded today on my pro rmk. Just under 1000km on the belt. I had looked at it a day or two prior and it still looked brand new. No warning. No damage to sled but it definitely wasnt good for the crank when it blew. Wasn't really any load on the track either as i was stuck in a trench just spinning

For anyone who's curious, I sent this belt out for warranty and just got my new belt in the mail today no questions asked. I had to pay shipping and include a $10 money order. Still much cheaper than buying a new one. Even if I only get 1000km out of each one its worth it to me for the better performance of the gates belt. All my polaris belts would start to pull cords around 1000km anyways.

Side note - where do I warranty the belt?! Can't find a contact form!

When you bought your belt it should have come in a sleeve, inside that sleeve is a form you need to fill out along with a check for $10 and send it to Gates in Colorado. I had one blow on my XM with about 200 or so miles on it and I am waiting for a response back, it's been about 2 weeks since I sent it to them.

Mine separated in one spot and was flapping against the panel. Luckily I had a spare Doo belt and was able to keep on riding but riding without a spare made me nervous.

Curious about this aswell. My primary was cut by carls cycle so i assume the same thing as I-DAN? I had been running the -115 belt for 2 years without issues, just changed it out this season. Probably try the gates next time.

Carl's farms the clutch work out to a local machine shop. Rumor has it, the machinist learned everything he knows from Indy Dan. FWIW

I had heard a rumour something of that sort.

I saw this link in another thread for the warranty info. Personally I don't get out riding enough to warrant the potential savings, I'll stick with stock.

Strange that someone mentioned having carls cut the sheeves - Carl's is my dealer and when I bought my Axys they said there was not change to make to the sheave angles on the Axys.... already at the correct angle from the factory now.

So what belt is it that we are supposed to run 44 or 45? It gets confusing in the thread.

Thanks

I know we're largely talking Gates belts here, but thought I'd pass this along for anyone interested in saving a few bucks.

Michelle / free agent @ Cannon Powersports (507.263.4532) is selling the polaris axys drive belts for 145.00.

Pro rmk 1115 belts for 140.

Still more than gates belts so I totally get that too.

I just called my local napa dealer in bc and was told that belt is not available to them

I bought one from NAPA in Calgary at the beginning of the season. I get good pricing through a friend and it was $145 l think. I just checked now and the warehouse shows no stock but if they did retail is $271 and good guy price $177. Ouch.

How much did they charge you for the belt?
I don't have a deep deal discount at NAPA so you might be able to do better. I paid $185.00. The warranty card is on the inside of the sleeve. If your running it on a Axys you can't use the factory belt holder. TRS told me, if the belt is bent backwards it is no good.

.........TRS told me, if the belt is bent backwards it is no good.

Interesting; Dobeck (used to send them, It's been a few years now, might explain some of the earlier failures) sent a lot of them out bent backwards to save on shipping costs.

TRS said to watch when I pick up the belt from NAPA. He said if its bent backwards don't take it. It wasn't. It was in the sleeve with no evidence of being folded up. So initially i was going to run the Gates on the sled and put a Polaris belt in the holder.
