I am running a MA track rack and a guy asked me how well that thing holds on there and to show him i picked up the back end of my sled by the handle on the can.
Well as one can see, the sky is the limit. In my case with a 600 SB, 06 version, I stripped off the plastic and fit on 1) a trimmed out rack for a 136" Mt. Cat just back from the seat. This rack which is mounted "backwards" secures the 2.5 gal gas can and sits over the main tunnel. 2) Just back from the cross-over tube, over the heat exchanger, I fit on a trimmed out rack for a 162" Mt. Cat. This rack which is mounted "normal" takes the lighter loads, like clothes and such. The stock tail light assembly remains in its OEM position. Lots of round pipe hook-up space.
I haven't yet experimented with post-images, so for now you will have to visulize the array.
Here's ours
Rack and can sold sepparate. The rack mounts via the "T" slots on the factory Polaris tunnel. Fuel can is CARB approved, which may not matter to some, but is legal in California as well as many other states that will be adopting the same laws.
FYI: the can we sell is nearly the same size as the old Polaris can that is now not available, so your old Polaris rack is not so useless anymore
If you dont have much $$ to spend like me....i bought the HOLZ rack and it was great..i know wildchilds racks are sweet too, i have seen them up close..
My favorite is the Mountain Addiction Racks..they are slick..
just depends on how much you have to spend..all are top quality and have their own bling factor, lol..
i just put a trackrack on mine. It seems extremely solid!
My only worry is the vent caps on the cans... They seem very easy to open. Has anyone had them pop open and leak from the vent after a roll over or deep carve ?
I have a VMI rack on the back of my 163. I used it last year and had no problems. I took off the stock taillight and replaced it with a LED and it works great. I can stack all the stuff I need to go to my cabin with no worries. Great product.
Here's a few that I did. First, someone asked what the bottom cut of the M A jugs looked like to fit on the rails. They are channel cut like an upside down pyrimid. Wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. Allows them to slide on and off from the side without being able to raise vertically. Heres a look:
I put the grippers on since I didn't use the M A rails with the VMI rack. The grippers protected the tunnel/jug and let out some heat in the spring. I used a shortened ratchet strap to hold 'em down. Good fit in the VMI rack and the cross bars can be moved for other applications/measurements.
I did this QRS jug on the 08 and have been very happy with it. JKinzer turned 2 of them length ways and ran 'em side by side on his last year for 5 gallons.
I had to slap this spacer plate together real quick to get the mounting plate over the center tail light wiring extrusion.
I use the Polaris rack with the old rubbermaid 2.5 gallon can and it works great. Good luck finding one of these cans though as they are nearly extinct.
