600 square foot garage. Insulated walls, none in the ceiling.

Looking for heater options. Want to fire up the heat in the morning and be able to work in a sweatshirt.

Looking at maybe a wall mount direct vent deal, or some sort of salamander heater.

Any input?

If ya can, definatly get the celing done. It made a huge difference in my garage for heating it up and keeping warm............. :beer; :beer;

If your gonna spend any significant amount of time in there, I'd get a vented heater. I got a ceiling mounted one from the local lumber store. It was a hot dawg brand and it does an excellent job of heating my 28x30 garage. IIRC it's a30,000btu furnace.

X2. Heck with the sweat shirt. A small Hot Dawg will run you out. My shop is 24X24.

With the hot dawg and mr heater deals would I need to make holes to the outside of the garage for venting?

Yes with the Mr Heater. It has a vent fan (power vent) so you can run the vent Horz. or vert.

The link above is the one I have, it is 75kbtu They make a smaller one, I think its 45kbtu

Hey!!!! That is cool.

insulate the ceiling or forget about it....and consider a monitor or toyo or a pellet stove and possibly a gravity feed non electric oil drip heater

I use a natural gas radiant heater, vented out the side of the garage, no pilot light so gas usage isnt bad. My shop is 20x20 with 10' walls and it will cook me out of there in no time in -30c. Hangs from the rafters out of the way. But with any heater, insulate the ceiling and it will be way better and hold the heat.

Looking at one of these, the first 300.

Price is half of a hanging ceiling heater at Menards, 150 vs 400-500.

I'd love a ceiling furnace, but that isn't happening in my current garage due to money and space. This one however I can mount right up to the wall where the old busted heater sits so I won't loose any space.

Not sure how I safe I feel about not needing to vent, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

What is involved in routing a gasline off my house? I assume I would be bringing in the gas company to do it.

I do like the idea that I can run it off propane or NG.

Any thoughts from the crowd?

No, you will not need to bring in the gas company. You should be able to add on to your gas manifold (main line, branches out to your furnace and or water heater).

Here is an example. Yours might be different.

You will need to extend or add in another line, so you will need some black iron pipe, elbow, shut off valve, flexible copper pipe and gas rated thread sealer. Once you got the manifold extended, hook up the flexible copper to the valve and run the copper to the garage and hook up the furnace.

Have you met my skills B? I do wood and that's about it.

I figured your skill set is pretty low considering that your sled is still not together after 4 years......

If you were a little closer, I would do it for you.. Should not take more then 30 minutes...

Do you see the tiny little thing hanging down from the ceiling? It keeps my 36ft x 40ft --12ft sidewall building workable and the best part is it hardly spins the meter !! Picked it up from Graingers >>>>.
