Fxr or fly helmet

After 10 years, I think it's time for a new helmet. I have it narrowed down to the FXR MountainAir light helmet for the fly F2 carbon. Which one do you guys like the best?

I am looking for a new helmet too. Want something light and really well vented. Even looking at Mt bike helmets. I tried on every carbon or lightweight helmet at the snow show and surprisingly enough the one I really like is the new Klim F4 ECE. Light, fits my watermelon sized head really well and no helmet has more vents. I wish they had better paint jobs though, matte black, gloss black and white, boring. I really like the FXR mountain light too, just not vented enough for me. The best "deal" far and away is the Motorfist helmet. Super light, well tested, lots of extra stuff and under $250. Just doesn't fit me.
gone sleddin have you tried on both of those helmets? Fit is a big deal.

I've tried on both in the last couple of years, don't remember exactly how the fly felt but remember thinking the fxr felt good. Have an fxr dealer about a half hour away, closest fly dealer I am aware of is 90 miles

the fly helmet runs 1 size smaller than most helmets

ex. I normally wear a L but the fly is a XL. they are very comfortable, i'm saving up for the KLIM. the otorfist is the same as fly they run small.

We have used and abused the Klim ECE, 509 Carbon, Motorfist Dominator, and a Fly F2 Carbon for a couple seasons now. We were only able to get the FXR Mtn Lite for a few rides last year, but we feel we have a good feel for the lid.

With that said, really just depends on what you want; color, venting, weight, style, fitment etc. If you want venting, you cannot beat the Klim ECE, if you want a SNELL rating, then you are limited to the Fly F2 out of those choices. Nearly all of them are similar in weight, with the F2 being the heaviest, but that is because of the SNELL rating. The motorfist helmet has a huge opening for larger goggles, and is an awesome buy with all the accessories you receive. The FXR lid is lightweight, has some great styling, and a few color options.

Feel free to PM us and we can answer questions that directly pertain to you and what you are looking for. Right now, the number one helmet for sales that we have is the 509 Carbon, paired with 509 X5 Goggles, but all of the above listed lids are close behind. Been a good year for helmet progression and design.

Honestly which ever one fits YOU and feels the best for you is the one to go with. My thoughts on helmets are get the best quality you can afford, after all it's your head!!!

Fly F2 for me. I have had it for 3 years now and love it. My new 509 sinisters fit in there like they were meant for it.

Troy lee D3 composite is awesome if looking at MT bike / action sports helmet. Carbon pinstripe is sweet!

Brandon I would love to try one on. It's not as vented as the F4, would cost me twice as much and I don't know what the fit is like. In the XL size I think it's only about 150-200 grams lighter than the F4. Like 5-7 ozs.

The Fly lid fits fairly similar to my Airoh believe it or not. I LOVE MY AIROH but I'm also pretty stoked on my F2 FLY lid with HMK colors. It's good to have these problems... :D

Put these lids on and try them, whichever one fits better, is the one for you. Check clearance at the temples, where it sits on your forehead, and if there's any movement of your head inside of the helmet. Fitment means more than weight, color, style, venting etc.

Currently I wear a Troy Lee Designs SE-3. It's a great helmet, probably the best one yet that I have owned. Light weight the comfort is awesome.

When I started shopping around for helmets, I must have tried on over a dozen before I found what I liked.

If you don't have shops around or near you with a good selection, check around on the net and see what kind of return policies online stores have. I ended up doing this last time and ended up having about 5 different helmets shipped to the house to try on. Obviously, all but one ended up going back but at least I had the chance to really compare between helmets.

Don't get hung up on what your buddies have or what looks cool. Everyone's head and face are completely different, thus helmets fit and feel different for everyone.

Now add in what goggles you use and this will start to narrow thing down. My suggestion here would be find a helmet that fits and feels good and then start the search for the goggles. Here again don't go by what your buddy says to buy and works for him.

Last time I purchased new goggles, my helmet went with me and I tried several goggles on with my helmet to see what fit into the helmet and what felt good against my face. Again everyone is different, what works for one may or may not work for the next guy.

It may take a little extra time and money but in the end you'll much happier if you take your time when choosing a helmet / goggle combo. Also as mentioned above, spend what you can and purchase the best quality that you can afford, after all it's your head / brain and you only get one!!

Current set-up is the Troy Lee Designs with Dragon DX goggles.

Good luck ordering through them. I ordered from them, they charged my card, no helmet and no reponse to phone or email. I finally called my credit card company and they reversed it. They said they had 45 days to dispute and not a word.

I'll only ever deal with the UK supplier for Airoh. Both the American and Canadian suppliers are idiots. I've been leaning on my reps for years to try and snag Airoh to no avail.

well....the order itself went fine....paid them, they shipped it, got a tracking #, email from an Airoh rep introducing himself and to let me know if I needed anything to contact him......everything from the sender was great.

but Friday I went to track the package it shows its being held up in New York by customs?? ....I havent been able to get an answer from anyone....it may get sent back to Italy......we shall see.

Sorry to the OP for getting off topic.
