Poo needs to come up with a way to ditch the primary ring gear and starter motor/shaft without getting sued for infringement, or license/buy some tech. That's the beauty of BRP's approach. FWIW, I have had an Earth X last 2.5 seasons now, but I charge routinely with an Optimate LI charger. The first Earth X was dead before one year, which I did not charge routinely, replaced under warranty (it was a great warranty experience, but, still pooped itself).

Update...

Only down side is the capacitor case is not waterproof and the installer should seal it or better yet drill a hole in the top and pour in electronic grade potting epoxy to submerge the board. The barrel of the 6 individual capacitors do not need to be submerged.

For those who like their light-weight batteries, I already tried that route and they often die before the end of the second season. These capacitors claim to be good for 0.5 million charge/discharge cycles. I expect 10 years easy, and they are about the same price as a lithium battery.

Neat-o, so you are just running a cap in place of the batter? Could always put it in a sealed box but I suppose that goes against the whole simplicity/weight reduction thing. What did it cost and where did you find it?

Yes, just the capacitor and it is similar to price of a lithium battery but it should last for many more years. My lithium battery only lasted 18 months before it was dead. I am evaluating this season if it is worth carrying them and if so I will publish pricing.
