Fuel tank covered under warranty

I was at Cutlers the other day and was told that Arctic cat is now replacing fuel tanks that the top has broken off for free. Doesn't matter what year or how many miles. It will be all covered under cat warranty.

Mine isn't broken that I know of. Maybe I should put some torque to it and if it breaks, get it replaced for free now rather than have it break a few years from now, after the Cat deal is over??

When I fill with fuel, I never leave the nozzle in the tank with nothing to support it but the neck. I always hold the nozzle. Maybe that is why my hasn't broken.?

You know you have a problem when gas leaks all over your tank while riding. Tried re-installing the cap three times, thinking I cross-threaded it, before noticing the real problem.

Cat replaced my M8 2009 tank. Didn't bother hauling the sled to my dealer. Removed the old tank and installed the new one. Easy job.

Sorry - didn't snap any pics of my bad tank.

The torn plastic was at the radiused corner, where the flat top of the gas tank turns from flat horizontal, through a tight radius, into the vertical round filler neck. Some tanks were thin in that area, on one side or the other. My tear went about 1/3 of the way around the base of the filler neck.

Dealer said to loosen the gas cap at the end of every ride (not enough to leak gas in your trailer) and especially over summer, so the cap doesn't "stick" to the tank and cause future over-torquing to loosen.

I suspect that some of the problem may be the upgraded aluminum gas cap. That's what I thought it was at first until I read a post in here last year. I can't speak for the plastic cap but, it seems to me that the aluminum one seems it sticks for some reason, maybe
the threads are a little different?

my 02 800 efi had this problem, crack go with threads can be hard to see, gas on your bibs is usually how you know you have a problem. I tried to fix with gas tank repair, Found a used one this was a few years ago. I think its the large cap that puts too much torque on the threads, just a guess
