Frozen Throttle

Had a warm day of 28 degrees followed by a cold day of -5. I was on a roadtrip and didn't have a chance to thaw out the bike and dry the throttle tube. When I would stop, my throttle would start to freeze up with my heated grips off. Before getting back to the trailer the 'bad' went 'worse' and my bike got away from me. I watched my shiny bike take a kamikaze mission through the woods 2nd gear pinned until it slammed a tree, hit the forks and ripped the front fender and headlight right off. Anyone else have this problem? Any install a tether? Solutions? I already have gauntlets/hand mitts on order

A guy I ride this has had this happened... Get a new throttle cable and keep it wellllllllll lubed... I Know atvs have tethers I would look into one of those to covert.. I am am glad it just bike parts and not body... I would say you were lucky... Or even worse a cliff... You will find the gauntlets will keep the elements off the bars when trailer inc or storing outside.... They are worth every sent ..

If it's freezing up from wet conditions in the back of the truck or trailer I make these to stop that from happening.

This is a must for Sleds too. The cable lube will fill the area the water can enter and sit. Plus keeps cable properly lubricated.

Your cable lining can get small breaks and holes in it over time letting in moisture which will obviously pool and freeze. I've started spraying lube and hitting the throttle assembly behind the throttle cap with WD-40 at the start and mid season interval. No freeze since then. If you do freeze and you can't wait very long for your motor to warm up have a friend pull up along side you and blast your motor with his exhaust. Helps break up that ice faster.
