Frozen Recoil?

So i was out riding with the wife and i pull up next to her and kill the engine so i can hear what she is saying. Go to pull it to start and the rope just comes out. try it again and it has like one click. then nothing....
i was in some powder over my hood earlier and there was some ice under the hood. could the recoil have just frozen? when i got home it worked just fine. after i had gotten towed all the way out..........

Towed out? figure out how to start your sled without your pull rope. might save your life. The 08 & 09 XP pull rope would stick sometimes. Caused by heat more that cold. Most of them will work ok after one stick.

and how would you do that, its a 97 summit 670 BTW

You wrap a strap around the primary clutch in a counter clockwise direction and pull on it. Use about a 4 or 5 foot strap. You need to wrap the strap around so it "holds" itself to the clutch but releases when it gets to the end so it does not stay attached to the clutch. I use a 1" wide nylon strap from an old tie down.

java, yeah that happend on my 09 first ride. They get to hot and no worky. Dropped it off at the dealer, they called me saying it works just fine. I called BS, they put an 08 on and no problems so far.

There should be a piece of rope and a plastic clip in your tool kit, for a emergency starter. 97 summits had a metal recoil system, they fail after a while, the post on the recoil would crack and break, I would look and see if yours is cracked, If you replace the recoil you can use a 99 are newer recoil they were made of plastic. Ski doo use to make a kit that had all the parts to update to the newer recoil. Find a good dealer and they could order up the parts for you.

thats the thing tho is that it worked just fine as soon as i got home, about an hour drive.

thats waht i thought about wraping the primary but we werent that far out and my wife was freezing so she just towed me. was quick and easy

It could of froze, You guys are getting some cold temp down there and the fine snow dosent help. But take the exhaust off and look at the recoil if the post is cracked you can see it without removing it.

would any hrm be done by covering the vents on the recoil cover that are toward the front of the sled, so that snow/water cant just blow in there?
