Some people's sympathies lie with the Geese:
From the January 16, 2009 Grand Junction (Colorado) Daily Sentinel:
"I am delighted that all passengers and crew of US Airways flight 1549 survived the masterful landing in the Hudson River by its pilot, Chesley Sullenberger.
With that said, my sorrow goes with the thought of the family of Canada geese that suffered violent death and maiming with the great possibility that some may be still alive and suffering a drawn-out death.
I propose that with our growing concern for each other, our environment and fellow creatures that we begin to “track” the timely and predictable course of our winged relatives.
The news I’ve read and seen has the cause of the plane wreck as being the Canada geese. The cause of the demise and maiming of the geese was the plane.

(The letter drew a comment that Shumer earmarked substantial funds in 2005 to develope a humane way of handling geese at LaGuardia, and blamed the number of geese gathering at the airport on the lack of effective methods (eg noise, population control, harassment).
