It's difficult to argue the reported success from people on the forums and people on the mountain of the fix kit from MTNTK. I was probably the last person in the world that would have ever installed a Weisco piston. I had always preached and installed OE pistons prior to 2010.
The forums were very busy with failures of the CFI-4 Dragon 800 during the 2010 season the same year they released the fix kit. MTNTK and PMS Polaris had tested and run the set-up in all of their's and customer's sleds not to mention a large rental fleet the season before in West Yellowstone. During a family vacation to Yellowstone in the summer of 2010, I actually bumped into the owner of this rental fleet. Everything that had been reported on the forum was exactly what this guy told me. The success of reliability. Considering sled problems seem to be larger on this forum than real world and the fact that I couldn't find 1 single reported failure, I went with the fix kit. They were also the first to release such a kit and many on the forums were already running the kit with success.
The first kit I installed was on my 09 Dragon. One of the most common things reported was noticing how much quieter the motor sounded when first started. I didn't lend any real credence to this statement but was very shocked at how real this statement was. Even my 5 year old daughter (then) noticed it and she had never heard this statement made by me or read it on a forum. This is 100% fact. She is our in-house Polaris Tech.
The difference in fueling requirements, cooler EGT's at idle, mid range, and top end were almost jaw dropping. The added torque, the fact that heavier weights were now necessary (2 grams), the engine starting on the first pull much more often were bonuses. I wasn't expecting more performance just better reliability.
I have installed 5 of these kits total, 2 of them on CFI-2's and 3 on CFI-4's. I know of 4 other Polaris dealers that sell and install fix kits.
Now in all fairness, I have not installed this kit in a turbo'd sled but I will be shortly. I see no reason why the success wouldn't translate to a turbo especially considering that MTNTK and PMS Polaris design, build, install, and sell their own turbo kits and run the fix kits in those.
The ratio of fix kits numbers sold vs. problems reported is by far the lowest ratio of any aftermarket product I can remember. You could easily run a billet head of your choice, RKT or PAR and run the fix kit.
