My father had an idea 40 years ago that he believed strongly in, and I still do today. All those who are on some kind of public assistance should do some kind of public service work. Whether it be picking trash or painting ect.. Thsoe who truely need the handout will feel they have EARNED IT. Those who think this is beneath them, will GET A JOB instead!!! What a concept. Ok, off my soapbox.
My new motto
Work harder, Millions on welfare are counting on you...
Just add every new program to the end of that line. So in this case: to provide free cell phone service to those who do not work.
whats next, phones for prisioners program?

Just think how much welfare peoples self esteem will go up now that they have phones and can facebook each other all day and twitter with the celebs.First free gas for your cars then Obama paying your mortgages, cash for clunkers, nobel peace prize and now free cells phones with minutes.......................I think I am packin up and movin south.Ill vote Barrack if thats how he is going to treat a guy.
My mother is 70yrs old. Raised us through the 70's & 80's giving up her career in office management for 20yrs. Went through a divorce and basically raised us on a part time work and secretaries pay along with the whopping $350 a month in child support for 3 kids. After we all left the house she changed to a job assebling circuit boards that paid better than her secretary position until about 2003 when neck pain and migrains caused her to seek medical treatment. They fused the top 3 vertibrae and 3 vertibrae in her lower back. While she can walk she cannot tilt or turn her head or lift anything over 5lbs and walks with a cain. She continiued to seek work (against doctors orders) but could find none. Prior she had a credit beacon of 820. 850 is highest and I've processed hundreds of scores a day in previous job and have seen 3 other scores close to it. (yeah it's kinda rare and it shows integrity, supposidly). She wound up loosing her house and selling all that she could to pay for her medical bills and finally had to file bankrupcty while she was waiting nearly 2yrs for her disability and housing to get approved. In the meantime she lived with my sister, her husband and 4 children. Annually she gets reviewed for income etc. She lives in income based housing, has food stamps, and recieves about $120 a month in SSI Disability, she has few options to keep her busy (quilting, knitting etc). And recently the utilities department raised their rates so she could no longer afford a land line phone. Us kids pay for her life insurance policy to cover her funeral, help out where we can. But we are all strapped due to our own circumstances. But you guys are right, she's just lazy, sits around on her azz all day and does not deserve any kind of assistance. And she doesn't deserve any kind of communication device to call for medical emergency or for us kids to check up on her. And even though that service provider is not yet available in her area, she should not be entitled to recieve $8.25 off her monthly $45 phone bill that she still can't afford.
Is this the kind of treatment we can expect in the worlds greatest country when we get old or physically unable to work? Yet other countries we say we are superior to take care of their elderly and disabled. Not all wellfare people are working the system.
