Fox Float Shocks-Good or Bad?

Whats the story on fox float shocks.I'm thinking about putting them on my 05 rev to shed some wieght,are they worth the money,do they perform well?

New Generation Float - 2's, Awesome choice

Yes they are. Here's some food for thought.The origional floats had "fast valving", you had to pump enough air in them to hold the sled up and they became "bouncy" like a pogo stick. "super fast rebound". Just last month Fox released a NEW float-2. Brand new for 2009. What the changes are is complete revalving and a stiff reverse spring that acts as a hold-back spring. The result should be soft at slow, progressive with speed and impact, AND nice smooth rebound. To top it off, their 6 lbs lighter! I have been on the phone with "Tomssnowmobile" in CA, the FOX snowmobile shock expert. He is a ton of great info. He is the guy in Snowest that did the new Evolution Air suspension article. End result...I just received my 2 new Float-2"s for my new 2009REV-XP. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know what the cost is to upgrade the Floats to Float 2's? I just picked up a set of Floats but haven't had a chnce to ride with them yet...was wondering if it is worth the money to upgrade.

:rolleyes:they have a special ad posted for rebuilding floats to the new float 2's on their sight. i think the cost was reasonable, couple hundred bucks??? i will look at the ad now. It's www.tomssnowmobile.com I think?

Last time I looked you had to call to find out as they weren't advertising the price....I wasn't sure if someone has all ready done the upgrade and what it cost them....thanks anyways.

I was quoted about 400 bucks for a revalve and all their updates... high flow piston, updated ifp... Seems pretty steep to me..

Fox floats are not that great UNLESS you get the revalve from Tom's. Tom is a great guy to deal with and the man know shocks!!!

iv got the new floats in the back with timbersled skid and the old floats on the front of my 05 summit. They are kinda bouncy in the front but just keep your speed up and they rock! especially on the REV chassis

so 1400 for 4.wow are they gold plated.i must be getting old:beer;
You shouldnt have any reason to buy four unless your using a rear skid that supports 2 more floats, so technically, youll just be spending 650 for 2. My dad got a pair for 500 bucks new because they sold him shocks for a renegade and they were too long, so they discounted the next pair. Lucky bastard.

I have to say I love the wait saving but I hate the rider quality, they are bouncy like a pogo stick. If I had it to do over again I would go for the FOX zeros, but now maybe I will check into the revalving to the Float 2's. We tried revalving mine but the ride isn't even as nice as the stock shocks. These are on an 05 800 sum. Just my Thoughts

Evols

In that article he made comments about the float2 and the EVOL (snowest mag volume 35, number 3). They explained that the float2 fixes some of the common problems with the first gen but that the mountain riders (REV and XP guys) would be better served by the "Float Evol R ski shock." The difference being the volume of the air chamber.

I haven't ridden the new shock but am thinking about trying it out. I saw an add today for $1100 for the set of Evols... kinda steep but if it makes a ton of difference, could be worth it.

Question from me is: is there a dealer that has this set up on a couple sleds that people might demo on the hill for a couple minutes. I know for me the proof is in the pudding and I've bought a few things after riding a buddy's sled or dealers demo. For that much money, I'd like a "test ride" first. Anybody know about that?
