hey how are the floats supposed to be mounted, black up or tan up?

Black down with the air valve to the outside. Then the tan part with the reliefs that are ground into the shock go to the outside to let the shock swing and pivot on the top mount without binding. If there are no reliefs ground into the shocks you will have to do it yourself. I did this with a pair myself that I got on the cheap.

so does it not matter? i know on some shocks you can only do it one way because of the oil inside.
