Found alive

They were found in an area that Heath (Brocks brother) Evan and myself had passed within 200 yards of at least a dozen times. Its like finding a needle in a haystack I guess. But was not where I thought they would be. Edit...apparently the info on the location brock and graig were found was inaccurate.... so im not sure if we had even come close. I will update as soon as I speak with one of them.

That is the scary part of being lost in the mountains. You can be 50 yards from somebody, but they are just over a roll over or in a depression, or slightly behind the trees and you never see them. That is why heli's are so important in these situations.

Glad everything turned out okay. Please do update with the full details when you get a chance.

B1 I know you all are caught up in the emotions but when you get a chance would you let us know where they were found and the story ?? So perhaps we all can learn..... thanks

So glad all turned out well. :) and yes, if you don't mind sharing so we could all learn, it would be appreciated.

So did they have the heli only today, or were they using the heli a lot in this rescue? I heard they had a fire going and find it hard to understand how a chopper couldn't locate them if they had one in the air with a fire going. I also find it disheartening to hear the Sheriff say they were going to call off the rescue tonight before they found them (he said that on the news).

If they didn't have a hatchet or saw for any big timber the fire probably didn't put up much smoke, especially if they were in the trees. Last year I remember the UT DPS showing up at the hangar for a 100 hour on their helicopter and had just done a sled rescue out of Logan. Those guys lit their sleds on fire to produce smoke (and stay warm).

I would set my sled on fire in a heart beat. It would burn nice and make a good smoke signal for rescuers to see :)
