Get One

I bought a KingCat late last year, which had one on it, not sure who it is made by but after riding a 2003 Mod 9001M untill this last year without one what a differance, I am 6'2" tall and now I am not bent over, My body is in a natural postion for shifting weight, also you are putting more weight on the front of the sled for climbing. Check out what I did for the Key, Choke and Tack, one thing to remember if you do this is longer cables and modding your hood to fit the post, awesome day of ridding today, Love the KK, MADDOGWFO:face-icon-small-hap

Not sure if its the same chassis but I got one for my 03 last year from the user on here "wildchild" Do a search and you should be able to find him and shoot off a PM.

He custom makes them and probably has one specifically for the 05. His response was quick and I had it in my hands in no time.

Completely changes the way the sled handles for the better.

Do it for sure!

KingKitty - yes they make one for the 05s. That's what I have and I just installed one. Previously I had the stock post with a 2" riser - just like yourself. It improves the handling A LOT. I'd like to tell myself that I just got better at sledding, but I think it is more of the post doing the work. It won't bend - don't worry about that.

You can order it in custom lengths. I got mine 2" over stock which is as long as you can go without extending the throttle cable. Wildchild will tell you that it also feels 1" higher just by moving them forward. So a 2" longer post really feels like 3" extra.

PM Wildchild. It's worth it.

A forward mount probably wont help as much with "bending" as much as it does "ergos". Get a chrome-moly post, much stronger.

Did the wildchild post, stock length with a 2 in riser, had a 6 in riser on my factory postn i'm 6'4, wildchild all the way much stronger.

CR racing

I bought the CR racing post and moved it forward. The best thing I ever did! The CR racing stuff costs a little bit more I think, but is a very quality part. Nothing better in my opinion. I also ride an 05'KK.

One of the best handling mods you can do to any year Cat up to the M-Series.
I went the CR Racing route and had him make it longer. Very easy to ride and although i think I'm using my upper body more to move the sled, my shoulders don't hurt at all after the mod. Dunno if this has something to do with it.

I have a wildchild forward mount post on my old 800. It's one of the best things I even did to the sled, at least for the money. Like others said most of the after market post are chromoly so they will be stronger than stock. I also went 2" taller than stock and it's about prefect for me.

It is a big help. I had a 2" riser and a half inch riser/spacer that relocated the bars an inch or so forward, that was ok. THen I modded my stock post for forward mount. Major hassle, should have just ordered a Wildchild. Then I decided to get rid of the ugly-as-can-be mountain bars so I chopped the post and installed a pivot type top from a Sno Pro with a block 10" riser and Sno Pro flat bars. That let me mount the riser block lower on the post and eliminate as much of the "set back" as I could from the angle of the stock post. I think I am happy with it now, it may be a little tall. Got rid of a ton of wires and junk though, went to a Sno Pro wiring setup with switches on the dash and aluminum throttle block.

That was the best thing I did to the sled yet, just got back from a ride. Rides entirely differently, even differently than the forward mounted post alone. Height is good too. Have Wildchild make a forward mounted post as short as you can, go with tall riser. Keeps everything forward and gets rid of the funky steering from angling bars way forward on a post that is set back. I will take pics when I take my sled to the shop to thaw out. :)

Pics.
kingkitty - As for bending the stocker, pull the bars off and run some tubing down the center of the post as far as it will go. Then run a bead of weld around the top after cutting it off flush. Added strength you can drill holes in the post first and then put the tube in, then weld the holes back up and that ties it all together. I wasn't able to bend mine with a 2.5" riser after that.
