Is there any decent off trail riding around Fort Collins that is doable in a day? I know the snowies aren't to terribly far away (3.5 hours i would guess) but I was wondering if there was any decent riding closer? I'm not familiar with the area so I appreciate any help I can get.

Snowy Range is a lot closer than 3.5 hours, more like an hour and a half.

Cameron Pass up Highway 14 has riding, both on top and the west side near Gould, CO (make sure to check wilderness boundaries). That and the Snowy Range are about the only two "close" options though. I personally like the Snowy Range for it's easy access and I live about 40 minutes south of Fort Collins yet. Another possible area would be Buffalo Pass west of Walden, CO but that is getting a little farther than it sounds like you want to go.
I have always ridden the Saratoga side of the snowies so that's where I figured the 3.5 but I could be wrong

I was up in the Cameron Pass/State Forest area last weekend, lots of snow and zero other people around. Not as many open areas as the snowies or as much area to ride but was still lots of fun.

~ 1.5 hours to Albany or Greenrock Parking areas on east side of Snowy Range.
3.5 hours? You can be to Rabbit Ears in that amount of time, Probably 2.5 to the Ears
