Forest Service out for Sledders.

Thought you might like this. Going into Silverton there is a new Forest Service Sign. Skiers ONLY. Nobody parking there. There is nowhere for sledders to park and unload due to the skiers using the alternate parking area. And no, the Forest service will not make a SNOWMOBLIER parking only area.

So if I put my sled in the back of my truck, how do they know if I am skiing or snowmobiling?

What is the penalty for an infraction?

so who can we harass about this?

This is pitiful, it just makes me sick how we're targeted as the bad guys, absolutely retarded.

Went to forest service yesterday. Got the run around. There is not a single pro motorized user at the office. It would help if all of you guys call the office and tell them that if they are going to segregate us we need our own parking area. And they need to enforce it like they do with our $30.25 stickers.

The Location is MOLAS Pass Just south of Silveton. SAN JAUN COUNTY. The Skier Only parking is near Andrews lake (Adjacent to a small NO MOTORIZED area) They will tell you its a saftey issue because we have to cross the highway to access the riding area, but the groomed trail crosses the road 50' away anyway. Its B.S.

The other parking areas are at the top of the pass (where the bathrooms are), little molas lake and the Snowcat skiing operation. Any one of these 3 would be great for SNOWMOBILE ONLY parking or at least TRAILER parking only. Tell them you are sick of skiers in subarus blocking in your trailer so you cant load up and leave.

The forest service will tell you that you can park at the snowmobile rental place on big molas lake, but that is maintained by a private user. WE NEED AN EXCLUSIVE FOREST SERVICE Parking area.

Thanks Guys.

Molas Pass is a special place, That bridge has been burned many times. I feel for ya if you have to ride up there. Better put your blinders on so you don't get pissed from all the fingers going up.

Doesn't mean we have to give up. CSA has went to battle for snowmobile's right to ride on Molas for years.

Thanks to who ever called into the Forest service office this morning. It was perfect timing. I walked in to complain and there was someone on the phone doing the same. I actually had to stand in line because there was a lady going off about the same sign. According to the District Ranger who I spoke with, they were sending someone to remove the sign. We will see...

So today we got some cross country skiers to call us in as riding the WILDERNESS. They dispatched a forest service official immediatly and 45 minutes later the Forest Service was on site.
We had a map with us and we were no where near it. The Skiers were just pissed we were Rasmussing and Buranting up all there terrain.

We need to make the forest service charge any skiers $500 for a false and uniformed accusation.

Please call the San Juan Forrest # 970-247-4874 and let them know you feel the same.

Thanks.
By the way, they finally took down the "Closed to Snowmobilers" sign at 5pm tonight. Well after they got there at 1pm to ticket us.

:beer; for you!

Unless it is the Andrews Lake property ( I think that is the name of the lake on the south side of US 550), when does the USFS has jurisdiction on CDOT hiway right of way.

Oh yeah, it must have been that USFS employee out of Durango who hassled me on his day off ,out of uniform after he finished a ski tour, asking me for my registration cards even though my stickers were clearly visible. When I complained to to the district ranger he said the USFS "officer" was clearly with in his "authority to do so", but that is a story for another day.

Thanks to those that got involved and called to complain.

Please continue to post these incidents to keep us all informed to ride on our public lands and thanks to the CO snowmo association to fighting the good fight in the Molas pass areas.

THNIK SNOW

join a club! join a club! join a club!

its the best defense to show the forest service the numbers and we are not going to take that crap.

the ohv funds have been under attack by the tree huggin losers, they want the ohv funds for maintaining hiking trails.....thats crap!

WITHOUT THE OHV FUNDS THE AREAS WILL BE CLOSED!

So instead of complaining on here, you need to complain to the Forest Service. Get involved.

I believe the purpose of putting this ON HERE is to bring about awareness so that more than ONE person can complain to the appropriate people. Wouldn't you agree Mr. Assassin...........?

I would suggest a letter to Ken Salazar directly. I will call him myself. The Secretary of the Interior has spent time at my home in the summer.
