After GM broke their platinum/palladium contract with Stillwater Mining Company (the only domesic supplier of these metals) in favor of contracts from Russia and South Africa (not to mention being owned by the Goverment and the Unions), I will never buy another car/truck from these folks.

I have been around all three, Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. The chevy rides way bettter and parts are cheaper. The Ford rides rougher but it can carry a whole lot more weight than any Chevy or Dodge. The Dodges have more problems than anything and they do not pull very well. The ford makes way better transmission, engines, and outside panels. I choose Ford over Dodge but Dodge over Chevy. Toyota is not even considered a truck around my place.

so you are not in favor of a company utilizing a free market for its goods? So should they be forced to use only US raw materials?
I did the same thing this last winter!! My new chev will go places in ice and snow with stock tires where my old 150 4x4 with studs all a round can't! It's a nice rig. Not perfect but I'm liking it more an more.

When your mantra has been "BUY AMERICAN" for 20 years now, I find it somewhat humorous that they don't seem to beholden to those same ideals.
Serioulsy, what I would have liked to have seen is GM attempt to renegotiate a contract with SWC, instead of just cancelling the contract. And then you hear about Canada complaining about the "Buy American" clause that is in all of the stipulations for the stimulous money. Apparently it is good enough for all except Goverment Motors.

Technically, they are a publically traded American company with Norilsk Nickel as the majority stakeholder.
thanks to nafta we can haul dense items around the world cheaper then we can buy them here......puke. your analogy is kind of like saying buy blood diamonds instead of fairly mined diamonds, afterall the price is right.
