Please dont shoot!

most of you know.. I am a Ford fan at large.. but, I kinda needed a newer truck and found a very good deal on an 01 Silverado 1500 4.8 ext cab short bed w/ 52K miles.. so I brought it home. I was looking at some '05-07 F-150s but, I really wanted my '10 M8 so I went with the Chevy for a MUCH lower price. Anyway, any you people have any problems with the 4.8 at all? Any complaints? I can take it back and get my money back if I dont like it within 30 days, lol.

Anyway...

we lost the tranny on our 01' 1500 at work this year.........it had 340k miles......lol. yes the wheel bearings are lame, but so are fords and dodges. at least chevys are easy to change......bout an hour.

I quite the brand loyalty stuff a few years back. My third new GMC truck had issues and I felt like I was not treated right by the general. The next new truck I bought I shopped around and ended up with a really nice deal on a Dodge Cummins. They're all good until they break......

:beer;:D:beer;

i've never driven one or know anybody that has one but i frequent a few GM forums and i've never heard anything bad about them other than they lack a bit of power compared to the 5.3 and get about the same fuel mileage other than that never heard any complaints.

should be a good truck.

A crime has just been commited....

LMAO...^^^

Seriously though, you can quit PM'ing me now. I wiped you off my 'friend' list...:p

Nawwwww.. jk

Congrats... it's got 4 wheels (I hope) and drives. What more could you want?

atleast you can use your cup holders unlike other brands!!!

yeah you know what Im talking about.....just look at your dash board people!!!

GM trucks run but expect your electrical crap to fail....

we have or had several GM's 98-07's gas to diesels they always run...

Congrats on the truck. Make sure you always keep the fuel tank at least a 1/4 full. Fuel pumps are not cheap for those trucks.

I had a 2000 with the 4.8. I loved it, 20mpg and had all the power you need empty. I could pulll about 4000#'s with it respectfully. I maintained mine like an airplane so at 260,000 it still hadn't given me any major problems and I gave it to my Mom as an errand-runner, still going. Good tip on chevy fuel pumps, if you run them low a couple times, you'll be replacing an expensive, hard-to-get-to fuel pump.

BTW, you guys whining about wheel bearings must not have lived through the 80's when we used to roll our trucks into the vo-ag shop (no brand exempt) and repack wheel bearings every quarter. Back then you used to have to check the oil and maybe add a quart or two between oil changes.
Wheel bearings are a wear item, so are brakes, u-joints, shocks, tie rod ends, idler pulleys, hoses, and a few other things that give up causing their spoiled owners to call it a POS and buy a different vehicle.

HAHA, now that's a true statement...:beer;

Congrats on a new truck and sled Andy:D:beer; always exciting getting a new toy, 2 toys are even better:face-icon-small-sho:D:D:beer;

I changed out a fuel pump for a friend of my dad's on a chevy not long ago, it's not hard to do. Just @ 8 bolts and a group of electrical connectors, and make sure that you have help to lift the bed off. It was much easier than I expected.
