Ford Ecoboost upgrades

seems like when those 5.7s are working a little bit, the mileage always ends up aroudn that 7-8 range... i also have a 22' goose neck "car trailer". i just hauled a small dodge neon on it last month. 100 mile trip, 65 mph the whole way and get a little over 8 mpg with it. ran in 5th gear most of the time except on hills....then it would shift down to 4th

even with a small 16' utilitly trailer with two quads or my dads polaris ranger on it i dont get better than 10. i cant run in 6th gear with it.

but whatever i put behind it, she chugs right along!

If you have not already test drove one i would suggest that you dont, you will have a hard time waiting. However, you will get a bigger fuel tank and that would be very nice.

I've got the 36 gallon tank in my '08 w/ 5.4. I am not interested in anything smaller. I have had some 500-650 mile days. I hate having to hunt for fuel stations. I did have a 900+ mile day which I filled up in the morning and stopped for fuel at 3 and got a sandwich. Looking forward to the power and mileage, just not the increase in payment. Although, if I do it right, the increase in mileage should cover the additional cost of payment.

I love the EB F150. Best motor Ford or any half ton has ever had. The power is the most diesel like gas engine I have ever drove. When I sell my powerstroke my next truck will be an EB F150.

Ditto

I really don't see how any other 1/2 ton engine is better at least when talking about a good compromise of power, low end torque and fuel mileage.

That is until they come out with a 5.0 liter V8 Ecoboost or the competition comes out with something even better. Or they come out with a diesel in a half ton?

I'm not even a Ford guy. I wouldn't own any Ford truck between the years of 1980 and 2010 honestly. But I couldn't be happier with the Ecoboost.

The thing thats most impressive to me about the EB is the low end 'diesel like' torque.....I have owned 4 powerstrokes (3 6.0s, 6.4L), 3 Duramaxs (Lb7,LLy,LBZ) All having custom tuning and im shocked by the power of the stock EB....it helps that the F150 is about 2500lbs less weight then the 3/4 ton trucks. I dont have a need for a 3/4 ton truck, but I cant stand driving traditional, high revving, guttless, down shifting gas engines. The EB is the first gas engine I could be content with driving after owning a diesel. Im waiting for Ford to put the EB in the Raptor and I will own one. I drove the Raptor with 6.2L and wasnt impressed with power or the 9mpg.

Cold air intakes don't do a hell of a lot for most turbo vehicles assuming the OEM intake breathes properly.

I'd say leave it stock, or open up the exhaust and chip it.

One of the many things I like about my Tundra is how sweet the tranny is. Shifts so smooth it's hard to feel most of the time. I think they could have done a better job of picking the ratios though. In Drive it starts off in 4th gear, 3rd when I am towing. Never use first and second at all unless I am hunting and select them. I have 4.30 rear end gear which was the stock set up for the towing package. If I did it again I would prolly try and get a 3.73 or 3.90 depending on what is available. All that power is wasted running 65-70 unloaded.

your tundra does not start off in 4th gear, or 3rd when towing unless the tranny/ecu is completely F'ed up. if you shift from park into D or the S manual shift mode in any gear (it doesnt matter)....the tranny will start out in 1st gear. or if you are stopped at a stop light, foot on the brake, shifter in D (or S mode in any gear)...your transmission with start in 1st gear.

there is no power "wasted" with 4:10 gears vs. 3.73s. your engine will run at a higher RPM at 65-70 with 4:10s, but nothing is "wasted".
