we found that 100hp at the crank roughly net you 50%. Any number you throw around is very very dependent on clutching and set-up.
150hp at the crank, with a GREAT clutch set-up(backshift, upshift, RPM) and you may see mid 80's HP.
The skid used by DynoJet for the trackdynos will give you some bigger numbers, but of course they do not translate to performance on the hill.
TJ can prolly tell you better than I, but someone who can "use" the dyno and uses it as another 'tool' in their toolbelt will be much better at netting some baseline #'s and possibly even get a decent set-up for the majority of the average guys riding.
That was my issue when I first got it, everyone jumped on me thinking I was telling them the end all was a trackdyno. When that wasn't my intention at all. But you know how the internet works
Even less impressed with you when you take that same sled with that same set-up and go WAX them on the hill 'cuz my butt dyno knows more'
Now with that being said.....I had a 670X on the dyno making over 80hp......but the backshift was in the 2-3 second range.....obviously not worth a crap when mountain riding. But if you want to show off numbers, throw as much weight as possible in the primary and let er rip!
And another tidbit for trackdynos.....backshift tests are imparative otherwise you have no idea if you are still making HP or fooling yourself. This was a question I had for the maker of those fancy pants weights.....he said he had a sled on the trackdyno...so I asked if his gains were verified using a backshift test......that caused a ****storm.....come to think of it....I may be in for some bad rep again for bringing it up......haha
Like most things.....Doc Zoom's 1200 Twin did not make 260hp on a Land&Sea and likewise My 800 does not crack 100hp at the rear wheels using a trackdyno. Beware of claims with no substance. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE.
*Not to say Doc didn't 'see' 260hp. Not to say I haven't seen 100hp on a trackdyno out of a 800. But the only people we are trying to fool is ourselves. In the end, #'s are totally subjective and completely up for interpretation. And I'd bet a juicy steak at Zala's that there isn't a single 800 twin mod with 100hp at the track. I can show you dyno sheets.....doesn't mean you should believe me though.
