Flex Fuel

Well picked up a silverado with the flex fuel option... Just wondering who has ran E85 and what you think of it? Im hessitant to run it until I hear how others have liked it.... Is it worth the $ for less mileage? Thanks guys.

e 85 must be .65 cheaper to break even. i hope you didn't pay $1800 for that option.

Here we go again with the E85 debate.

I have found in my vehicle that it gets 24% worse mileage. This is after going ten tanks of each type of fuel.

So, on a strictly economic basis, E85 needs to be 24% less expensive than normal petrol for it to be even.

I found the power sucked and my foot was down on the pedal harder as well........

I have not checked or paid attention to the unleaded -vs- E85 pricing for awhile, but 6 months ago, E85 was only about 15-17% cheaper than unleaded.

It just did not make sense on so many levels to use this fuel.

It may have changed though.........

The is in the Twin Cities by the way. It could be a much different story elsewhere.....

just search on here.

me I tried it, less mileage and the price in SE Mn where corn rules is steady with gas....if gas is up e85 is up an equal amount.

I quit based on poor cold starts and weather...also on principal I don't and won't support corn based e85.

my dad had a chevy truck. and he checked milage many times with e85 and regular on the way to the cabin 200 miles each way. it would take 22 gal of e85 or 17 gall of regular. if he was pullin the boat the spread was even larger.

hmm sound like the same thing i was thinking... not worth it... I would think it would be more of a headache with cold weather and all. I dont know.

yea thats what im going to do... its it gets 24% worst mileage and what not, around here its only 17% cheaper.. stupid and then I gotta worry about how the cold affects it.

it's funny here in mn. theres a campaign on how the state of mn has all of these e85 cars and trucks in there fleet. they are saying how much money the goverment is saving the tax payers. fawk the goverment start shooting these pricks

At today's price.
22 gallons of E85 = $45.98
17 gallons of regular unleaded = $45.73

My point is, the end user cost is 25¢ more per trip. That's insignificant especially considering it's an American made product.

Blu Du,, don't take that the wrong way. Yours is the only post with real numbers, and not fancy percentages calculated in a manor only to please the negative.

Estevan:

It simply comes down to the spread in mileage vs the spread in cost per gallon.

In the twin cities, ON A STRICT ECONOMIC BASIS, it does not work. Ethanol costs you more to run it........... Period

great mileage, empty at 11 mpg. Sounds like a very inefficient vehicle to begin with.
